KELPFUL HINTS ON ELECTRIC CDQKINB In connection with the Westing, house electric range campaign now under way, the California Oregon Power company U releas ing a fe lira of true ratlins article by noted authorities on the ub Jed of "wlwctrUj cookery" watcu alioald prove helpful to all local housewives. One of these Items in reproduced herewith: Uy MRU. P. K. lU'NNINO (Home Koonomica Department, the 8ociet for Klectrica.1 v Development) There seem to be do douht In anyiKMjy mind that uievii- clly conatltutea Uie Ideal cooking fuel. Kvory woman who ha ever uaed a wattle Iron or a toaster or a grill knows that cooking by eleo trirlty In the coolest, most conven ient and moat satisfactory way in which to cook. But there does em to b some doubt as to the prntfticabillty of doiiiK all the cook inn for the family by electricity. Ami thin state of uncertainty is no douht depriving many women of the blessing of having an electric inngo In her kitchen. This is really loo bad, especially now that the pleasant iiens and lability of a kitchen in which an electric range does the work would mean so much in added health and hap piness to the home maker. Electricity on a Dollar Basis Probably the first and largest barrier between the average wo man and an electric range Is the fear that the cost of operation would be very great. Now, speak ing from a strictly dollars' and cents' standpoint, it is generally conceded that w here t he coat of electric current for cooking is five cents or lens per kilowatt hour, conditions are favorable for the use of electricity. However, If the local rates for Other cooking fuels are proportionately high, electricity will then compare fav orably on a higher cohI basis. In considering the electric rano from the standpoint of economy, you want to realize that a little intelligence applied to its opera tion will materially lessen Its cur rent consumption. This is true, of course. In respect to any range. hut especially jiue of an electric one. If quality, made by a reliable man. raciarer, it will have a very high efficiency, and a good thorough reading of the instructions which accompany it will give you many useful hints as to its economical operation.
