He also has resigned as a di rector of the Gulf Coast lines, the Texas and Pacific railway and the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad. Smith Orders Vice Check ALBANY, N. Y., Aug. 10. A re port that the lid on gambling and vice had been clamped down at Saratoga Springs was received to day by Governor Smith from state troopers who in plain clothes are watching conditions' there. The governor, who had threat ened three of the law enforcement officers at Saratoga with dismissal if they failed to suppress vice and gambling, said the troopers' report was that "things were tightening up." After advising the Saratoga officials Public Safety Commis sioner Sweeney. District Attorney Smith and Sheriff , Cromle that he had them under observation, the governor called them before him yesterday to warn them again that he' would hold them to strict account for enforcement of the law.
