Missionary Society Entertains Visiting Group Thursday the Presbyterian Wo men's Missionary Society enter tained the Sutherlln Missionary Society at a basket dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fisher of Edenbower. At 2:30 o'clock the regular business meeting of tlie society was called to order by the vice president, Mrs. Chas. Roberts, as the president, Mrs. Geo. Houck, was unable to De presem. For the devotional exorcises Mrs. Achor led the group In sing ing "God Will Take Care of You." Each one present gave her favor ite verse, and Mrs. Achor closed with a prayer. , Mrs.- Lila Vowel rendered a beautiful piano solo and Mrs. Anna Scott gave two readings, entitled "I'm Glad I'm Teaching School," and "When Life's Lessons Have Been Leurnec." , Tho foreign topic, "Chlnn," was ' Interestingly handled by Miss Jose phlne Parrott, who spoke of tho organization of "The Church . of Christ in China (Interdenomina tional.)' The home topic; "Army and Navy Chaplains," was well dis cussed by Mrs. W. W. Ashcraft, who spoke of the duties of the chaplains. The year book of prayer, under the direction of Mrs. Grinstcd, was presented by Mrs. Achor, who spoke of the missionaries in China and by Mrs. Arundel, who briefly mentioned the twenty-seven chap plains listed. Prayers for these missionaries and chaplains were offered by Mesdames French and Hartley, of the visiting society. In the Sequoia national for est what Is known as the Onyx fire Is burning along- the south fork of Fern river. Two thotiHand ncres of brush land have been burned and the 80 men on the fire expect to control it today. Fire fighters had to pack III six miles tosget to the fire. In the lessen national forest near Yellow Jacket 1,000 acres of timber and brush have been burn ed over. The fire centers along Mill creek canyon and Is 15 miles south of Lyonsvllle which 1b east of Red Blufr. She was taken to that city in the ambulance of the Hoseburg Undertaking company nnd stood the trip very well, the ride appar ently having no effect upon her condition. M. 15. Hitter, who drove the car to Portland, accompanied by Miss Culver, Mrs. Hamilton's nurse, returned to Roseburg last night. s Delegates Going to Convention Delegates from the local Active Club havo been selected to repre sent Roseburg at the Fourth Inter national convention of the club to bo held in Eugene July 19, 20 and 21. They are Wm. D. Butler, presi dent. Laverne Hawn and Bert Courtney. A number of others of the local club plan to attend some of the sessions and on the second night of the convention the entire Roseburg club will be In attend ance.
