Tile next low bid was suu tnitted by Settergren lirothera of Portland, whose basic bid was S1S7.4S7 and the third waa II. K. Doerlng, Portland, J158.726. The architects stated that the bids on tblB building were closer than in any recent contracts with which they have had occasion to deal. Of the eleven ,-bids submitted eight were between $102,000 and $168,800, Indicating lite keen com petition over this contract. Alternate bids wero submitted by the Beveral contractors, the ba sic bids being on metal covered doors and the alternate hollow metal doors and metal trim. The latter doors are higher in price, but give a better job. Mr. Mer ger's alternate bid was also low, being $500 under the next bid. and the nlternate proposal was accepted, bringing his total con tract to $150,015. Contractor Praised . The architects expressed thein- selves as being well pleased with the nwnrdlng of tho contract to ! Mr. Met7.ger. Not only does iho I award meet approval because )t j goes to a local concern, but the architects personally have bad a good deal of experience In the past with Mr. Mother's work and compliment him very highly. John Tourtellottc, ot the firm of Tourtellotte and Hummel, who drew tho plnns for the building, states that he considers Mr. Metz ger to bo one of the best con creto men in the state, and he al so knows that he will fulfill every letter of the contract in a careful anil skillful way. The awarding of the contract to Mr Metzger, the architect stated, aspires a build ing ctiuslrucled entirely In accord ance with the plans mid in n thor ough ami workmanlike manner. ,. Scott Gets Plumbing Pleasure was also expressed ovor the fact that tho heating and plumbing contract wiui awarded locally. Elgin bids were received on Iho healing and five on the Plumbing. Two locnl bids wore submitted, one by Win. Scott ami the oilier by Keyset1 and Hast, tho hitler firm heinK next low with a total bid of $19,620. Mr. Scott submitted a bid of $11,128 on the hotting and $6,870.33 on tho plumbing, ami offered a reduction of $1.1(1 on Iho contract if holli jobs be awarded to him, making a total dries of $17,848.33. J. A. nrnke of Albany submitted the low bid on electric wiring, but because of an iiTogularitv of his proposal the court look tho bids under advisement. Mr. Drake bid $3,216, t lie Ilnilny Klectrlc coin-1 pnny of Portland bid $4,011 mid Davidson electric of Portland I tt, ut,;. mere tycre ri'ven bids sunmitted. Three elevator bids were receiv ed and six on jail equipment. The bids on electric wiring, jnil equipment nnd elevator were taken under advisement by the court until this nfternoon.
