The sheriff's office was today;
engaged in an Investigation of u1
bad check deal pulled off in this I
city a few days, ago. A man giving
the name of James Pond went to,
the Pago Lumber Company und
placed an order for Inmber lo ho
delivered ul an" address on Pine;
street. The house was unoccupied,
but the man was present when the
lumber was unloaded and gave the
truck driver a check for $2.1 in pay- j
ment for Ihe lumber. The bill I
came to $11 nnd he received cash!
for the difference. The check waai
returned to the lumber company
as worthless and .was turned over
to the officers for investigation.
