Miss Florence Weatherford, for
the past few years employed as an
operator In the local telephone ex
change, leaves today for the south,
being transferred to the San Jose
office. Enroute she will stop In
Medford, where she will visit with
Mrs. Oscar Lynum and her daugh
ter, Mrs. Harry Fisher, who was
Miss Zelma Lynum of this city
nrlor. to her marriage. Miss
Weatherford will take up her new
duties in the southern office Mon
day. Young Bauer Given Fine
The case of Herman Bauer, Can
yonville youth, who was charged
with reckless driving following an
accident In which Mr. and Mrs.
Elton Bollenbaugh, also of Can
yonville, were quite seriously hurt,
was heard in the justice court yes
terday afternoon before a jury.
The ense is one which has hoen
pending since last December.
About nine witnesses were called
before the jury, which decided
young Bauer guilty. Judge Hop
kins fixed his sentence a (200 fine

months. District Attorney Guy
Cordon appeared for the state and

A giant monopoly in the radio In
dustry was charged In the senate
by Senator Dill, Washington, in
introducing a bill to regulate use
of patents. Dill charged that the
General Electric, Westtnghouse,
the American Telephone and Tele
graph, and the United Fruit cor
poration were In the radio trust.
RAPHAEL'S "MADONNA"

Raphael "Madonna" has been sold
by Lady Deshorough to Sir Joseph
Duveen at the record price ot
176,000 (approximately $875,
000) It was announced lute today.
The famous painting bears 14a
phael'a signature and: the date
"1608". It has been In the posses
sion of Lady Dosborough since the
death of the Enrt ot Cowpeer.
The previous record .price for a
picture was 157,000 ($755,000)
recently paid for Gainsborough's
