AS PROTEST ON TAXES
THE DALLES. Ore., April 6.-
A uoviil method of protesting
against taxes believed to be loo
high was disclosed here yesterday
whon, according to the statement
ot two unidentified boys, they
were employod at $2.00 each by a
"certain old man" to throw rocks
at the home of County Assessor
James A. Davis, who is a cripple.
The boys threw the rocks, break
ing several windows, and were
then startled to discover they had
picked tho wrong piace, and wero
attacking the resilience of luontin
Davis, a son of the assessor, who
immediately gave chase.
They made good their get-away'
but later left a note in young
Davis' car explaining their action
and mistake and adding, "You are
a party good fella because you cum
rieht out with a gun, but the old
man was mad about his taxes so
we took the 51."
Mr. Dhv.h, the assessor men

formerly a resilient, of Koseburg,
having taught sehool here for sev
eral years.
