city, passed away March 30 at th
Dr. Nichols Sanitarium at Savanah,

tery at Uioomfield, Iowa. Mr. I
Goode was well kuown here having
resided in this vicinity for a num
ber of years. He was a life-long
member of the Baptist church. He
leaves three children, Zayda Good
man of North Bend, Oregon; Lucuy
Goode, Falls City, Oregon, and
Mrs. Ira Hull of Pomona, Cali
fornia. His wife passed away about

Suit was brought by the secre
tary of state to force the counties
to pay to the state part - of tho
Stanfield tax money derived from
the federal government. The coun
ties met the suit with the argu
ment that the state had not ap
peared before congross In behalf
of the bill; and mat was iruj.
They argued that congress, when
the bill wns passed, had no Idea
that the state government was to
