Mrs. Honebrnke was formerly Mary Plliznbetll Arnold and the youngest of eleven children. Dur ing the early years or her life too building of the Central Ohio rail road took place not fur from her home. When Mary was about fif teen or sixteen years of ago her aunt. Eliza Garfield, and son James came to visit the Arnolds. Later this cousin James became president of the United States. Some years later the Arnold family moved to Iowa and whilo there lived on a farm. It was from this homo that two of 1 Mary's brothers left to become soldiers In the C'lvii war. On. November 27, 1856, Mary Elizabeth Arnold was married lo John Star Bonebrake, near Newburn, Iowa. In 18G2 the couple organized and joined a band of friends and relatives who de sired to cross tho plains and make a new home in the fur western country. The crossing of tho Platto river nnd tho attacks by Indians were among the ninny dangerous episodes which oc curred during the six months' crossing of tho plains. Tho llonebrakes made their first homo In California. In IS04, however, they came even farther west, and settled not fur - from Itoseburg on Deer Creek. In 1909 John Ronebrake died. He was sur vived by .Mary, his wife, and (heir eight children, all ot whom are living. They nro: Georgo, Will and Fred Honebrnke; Mrs. Emma Eric son, Mrs. Lon Winters, Mrs. Will Van Huron nnd Mrs. William Geminder, all or Itoseburg, and Mrs. CharleB miner, of Portland. Mrs. Mary Honebrnke has Just celebrated her ninety-first birth day.
