nouncement of V. T. Jackson that
he will be a candidate for the nom
ination on the Democratic ticket,
putting three avowed candidates
in the field, two for the Republi
can party and one tor the Demo
crats. Ed Singleton, Democrat, is
also considering making the raco
and may become the fourth can
didate for the office.
For county school superintend
ent Mrs: Edith Ackert. incumbent,
is opposed by O. C. Brown, both
being republicans.
For coroner two republican can
didates, M. E. Hitter, Incumbent,
and H. C. Stearns are contesting
the nomination.
H. L. Eppstein and B. B. Irving
aro rival republican contestants
for county surveyor, the offlco
which Mr. Eppstein now holds.
Such an array of candidates for
county positions gives the voters
ample latitude for selection and
adds much Interest to the forth
coming primary.
For Deer Creek precinct a pa-
luteal fight has developed be-'
tween Finis Dlllard, and J. F.
("Sourdough Jim") Gay for the po
sition of constable, and this has
all indications of belifg a sr.apuy
battle. ,
To Fill City Offices .1
It wlM also be necessary at the
conV.ig nominating election to fill
the various city offices of mayor,
couiicilmen, recorder, treasurer,
etc. So far there have been no
candidates for these positions in
the field.
As candidates for county, dis
trict Tnnd city offices have until
April 18 In which to file their
nominating petitions or certifi
cates, the political race can still
take on various changes.
One matter that Is of immediate
concern to all who epect to vole
at the primary election on May-18
is that of registration. If a person
has voted at any time within tho
past .three years anj has not
moved from the precinct In which
he or she last voted, then the reg
istration of that voter is satisfac
tory. If, however, a person nas not
voted within that time, or has
changed residence since last vot
ing then re-rcglstration Is re
quired. Persons who have moved
Into the county from some othST
county or State, or persons who
have never i-eglstored must also
be registered. Any person who will
become of age atter April 17, when
the registration books close, and
who will he of voting age before
May 18, may register at any time
between next Monday, March 19,
and April 17, Inclusive. The -people
of the stnto nt the last elec
tion abolished the privilege of
swearing in voters off election
day, so that any person who ex
pects to vote must be regisfeTSTd";
the last date for registration be
ing April (7... A list of registrars
was recently published, there be
ing -one person In each precinct,
except In Roseburg or Immediate
vicinity, qualified to register the
voters of that precinct. People re
siding in or near Iloseburg must
register at Uio county clerlt's of
fice in tho courthouTTe.
