StylUis have favored no one typo and wo sui silks, woolona and cottons being Introduced for spring In a moat de cidedly friendly fashion ... all sharing honors amicably In their own time and place. They all havn a most Important fashion duty to .perform and all appear most ami cus to please. Vv'e have our doubts If there Is ny normal feminine who can re list the fabrics for spring. To Ihs writer they never aeemed more charming nor the variety so com plete. ' Every color around the sun and every color undor the aun appear in the gay silk prints of the new season. Multicolored effects are my most prominent . . , those to be worn either for sports nr after noon functions. Crepe de chlne.i, georgettes and chiffons In new floral effects are seen In tho Im mediate vicinity of brilliant Jungle ptlnta whose colors wero no doubi Inspired by tho cay anil exotic col ors of the natives' costuneh. Fruits are not overlooked In tho 1928 spring silks and one striking piece that Is noteworthy wa of wild cherries in an exceedingly smart resign. Spring WooUnt The overwhelming success r-f the tailored frock and the sports ensemble Is. no doubt, a decided factor In the great Importance which la attarhed to the beautiful new woolens for spring. Wool crepes. Jersey, kasha. tweed and cashmere all are high lighted in the mode. Novelty tweeds, which will go to make some of the most fashlonablo coatB of the season, favor email, indefin ite pntterolngs or weave effecta patterned along geometric linos. Spring frocks will be mado of smooth surfaced tweeds In beige and brown mixtures, oxfords and deeper brown shades. Pastel Kasha Coats Tho success accorded the paBtel kasha coat at tho southern resorts during the past season was evi dently only a forerunner for Its already evident spring popularity. Nile green, natural and pink are tho favored shades and badger is the favored fur trimming on this type of coat. Jersey Is without question of a doubt, one of the most popular of flprlng fabrics. .In many cases, it Is content to form only the blouse of a smart sports or street ensem ble; again, it fashions the entire dresses; and In some cases, H Is the aole material of the two In three-piece ensomhle. (lrorrln ribbon in matching or contrasting shade Is the trimming the Faris lenne loves, on Jersey. Spring Cottons Among the most Important tub fabrtca for spring are printed pi ques, lawns In English garden effects and patterned linen. The time Is at hand when ma- dame and mademoiselle must se lect ber spring wardrobe. Of course, she has been thinking and planning and contemplating that very thing for many weeks . . . but the time bas come when im portant selectlona must be made , . for spring is here) Being a woman of fashion and a very wise one at that, she knows full well that any costume can be made or marred by a hat. For that reason, she goes about thla busl ness of hat hunting very religious ly and before choosing, considers her new spring chapeau from every angle. Variety Is Infinite But In selecting her hats for spring, 1928, she will find little dif ficulty In finding the hats of her dreams for the variety Ib infinite, the models were conceived- In the colons are spring's own and I'ansian minds . . , what more can we ask? And so realizing the fashion Im portance of hats, she seTs ntout to make her selections. . And here la some millinery style Information that she kept in mind, when mak ing her all-Important selections; A New Silhouette There's an entirely new silhouette In the hats as they are being pre sented for spring. This oulto natur ally was conceived by tbe Frencb and the whole secret lies In '.he novelty of the brim. Tho general Idea, however, la one of simplicity, but the lines are unusually coniDli- cated. This new silhouette pertains solely to the Minis, the crowns re maining snug and following tho contour of the head closely, and are Just as simple as ever. Not only do we notice In the first spring hats that this compli cated idea is limited to felts alonn. ror the. straw hats appear to be very soft and flexible in that they are creased, tucked, . draped and planed. in every way tbe felt Is used. Straws are particularly prominent for spring, although reit never will lose its smnrtneBS and chic. In the straws, ballibuntl, slsol, bakou and parabuntl are the moat. prominent. Ono thing is certain: that with so much vnriety, It is a simple matter to unci at hat that adapts Itself to one's face. Spring hats are utterly becoming. We notice the new more feminine asuect- the reason is they have more trim mingsand the silhouette is framed about the face in soft flat lerings lines, thus getting away rom the plain snorts-like effect so long in vogue. Turn Up In Front Turned un In front hats are be ing sponsored by many of the lend this effect throughout most of the Ing Paris designers and we notice spring collections In the stores and shops. Brims take on width and are turned up and slashed, plaited and laid back flat to the crown. Some are" flat under the brim Itself and render a smart note of novelty. For the reason that turned up In front hats are youthful and flatter ing, it Is expected that they will meet with no end of success. Hats for sports wear take on tho wider brims; perhnps this lfloa was con ceived by quick thinking design ers who realized the Importance of the collnrless coat. The eyebrow effect ib much In evidence, both in brimmed and brlmless models. Embroidery Is Used Embroidery is used in new and novel ways. Colors are important and we find bright light greens, coral rede and Boft yellows Intro duced In hats of black. All the light green ahadca in the interest ing apple tones and many of the light blue greens archighly fav ored. The pinky coral tones that every woman loves appear In both felt and straw models. And so the woman who loves color may choose to her heart's contenttnr It's to bo a aeason of gaiety and brilliance so far JTI spring bats are concerned. The Larger Hat Several of the Paris designers have mado very definite attempt! toward the larger bat In their sprign collections. And since Utero will always be devotees of the capeltno. It Is expected that these will be chosen by women who are tho type that can wear them suc cessfully and comfortably. But for the majority of us tominines, It is safe to say that the small hat will be the favored one'. . . especially so, when it is very definitely ac cepted that the tailored suit Cud the collarless ensemble are two of the smartest features of the Bpring mode. Ornaments Are Varied Clold and silver ornaments have found such favor in milady's eyes that we see them again in all shapes and sices on the newest spring hats. Some of the very smartest are of three metals . . frequently a black metal, platinum and copper are combined. Usually they are along geometric lines. Composition ornaments and pins of miniature floral motifs and tiny rhlneslcnes are being used on some of the most exclusive hats. Designers Invaded the Jungle again and have come forth with all sorts of interesting animal pins, such as elephants, glraffea and running dogs. JashlonJVezos of the. Fashion scouts have been scout ing around Paris and cubles have been flying back and forth across the Atlantic, flashing the latest news of fashion as it affects the sport world for spring. And how interesting and fas cinating it Is . . . containing all sorts of sparkling new and very choice information for American women who take their sports so strenuously and the matter of their sportswear so seriously. Before we even begin to tell you about all the fascinating new things about spring sportswear, we want to tell you Just how import ant the ensemble theme has be come. It began its career several seasons ago and bcause of its chic and practicability, it has grown by leaps and bounds until now it appears at every smart sports occasion with equally smart nonchalance. Tweed that sturdy material, popular for centuries in Scotland js the leader of a merry band of fabrics that go to make the charm ing costumes for both sports and travel wear. The tweeds that are smartest for spring, however, are not the small patterned woolens, rather the flue mixtures and plain cloths. For street wear, light weight woolens are extremely im portant. One and Twc Piece Frocks Whether you go in for active sports or are content merely to be a fashionable bystander, you will be interested to hear the news that the one and two-piece dresses are qually Important. Three-pleco jumper dresses are even more smart and are most informal in na ture insofar as they are develop ed of novelty knitted and woven fabrics. While wandering about the fash ion shops and ready-to-wear sec tions of the stores, we saw many Interesting variations of the one- piece dress. One that particularly caught our eye was a white kasha which was appllqued In unusual modernistic designs In black. An other wa8 a tnn-belge . cashmere, accented by bandings of brown. Another dress that would be equal ly at-homo on tho street or In the field of Bports was a gray tweed with triangular Insets of black. We also noticed one of roBe-belge wool crepe with Insets of a darkor shade. This darker shade appear ed again around the neck and cuffs. Feminine Note There is a decided feminine note struck in the woolen costumes for spring with the Introduction of pastel, tones. We saw a luscious violet blue woolen outfit. Another was In bright yellow. t For many seasons, prints have mado very serious attempts to en ter the world of sports fashions. This year It is our guess that they have exceeded their fondest expec tations for the reason that we see prints prominent In sports cos tumes. Sometimes the print fash- Ions the coat, with a frock of plain material and In just as many cases the Idea ls reversed. Flaln crepes In all the rough surfaces, such as pongee and shantungs, are self trimmed and extremely simple, yet utterly chic Cardigan Reappears When the Cardigan waB Intro duced not so mnny sensons back, little did the world of fashion real ize the heights of favor that Is has apparently reached In the spring collections. Those for spring, liow ever, are different, insofar as they are longer and belted and fit more snugly around tho hips. Others come with capes and by the way. capes are one of the out standing features of the 1928 spring sports wear. These little capes are often merely coverings for the shoulder, yet In many cases reach to the wrist. One of the smartest sports coats we noticed, had a cape that extended almost to the hemline in back and was cut away from the front of the COIit. With the Cardigan and one and two piece frocks, huge scarfs of silk are thrown nonchalantly about i th shoulder and appear In bril- j llant colors or In plain shades to I harmonize with the costume wltb i The smartest tailored suits j Ensembles have definitely are developed of mannish . eitabl 1 s h e d themselves, suitings and often belted. Sweaters Important Sweaters are no longer an acces sory to fashionable sports ward robes. . They -have assumed the Importance of a necessity. Sweat era are particularly favored by debutantes and young matrons who tnke their golf and tennis se riously for they realize and appre ciate the comfort of a sweater, to say nothing of Us smartness. The newest sweaters feature two-tone contrasts that the:-attained through stripes, sometimes encircling the shoulder just as many times extending only half way around. Diagonal effects seem just as important by the use of metallic stripes and gleaming threads. . Sports Jewelry , " Tho vogue for sports Jewelry continues to be most important. Vivid color effects are seen In Jsde green, lapis blue, rose and ruby shades and various Bhndes of purple are combined In unique links of silver or gold. Sweater Beautiful Norma plays the part of a hard-boiled traveling saleslady who believes that all is fair in love and busi ness. She manages to combine the two in a way to make you roar. 3 ., ... .
