He told the officers that tho rob
bery, in which holdup men posed

edge of the manner in which the
payroll was handled.

Charged With Assault.
District Attorney Ouy Cordon
Btated this afternoon that a charge
of assault with a dangerous wenpon
will be placed against the youth
and he will he held for the Febru
ary grand jury.
"We will make a moBt thorough
investigation into this young man's
record," Mr. Cordon said, "as we

ter deliberating for ten minutes in
a case that took two weeks to try
and called 130 witnesses, the jury
in Federal Judge Bean's court to
day returned a verdict for the de
fendant in the $91,000 damage euit ;
brought by Albert Sternberg of i
Albany against the Southern Pa
cific company.
Sternberg, proprietor of the Al
bany Tanner company was at
tempting to collect damage done
to bis plant by tire, which he al
leged was set by sparks from a
steam engine working on the rail
road line.
A feature of the trial was 'the
denial by Sternberg of a bribe-i
which Mrs. Alice Kelly, r witness,
