Preference for DunlopTires has caused Dunlop
to grow so that now, including the greatest of

occupies a productive area of over 100,000
acres. Over 22,000,000 Dunlop Tires aru now

The Industrial Migration
Through the portals of Portland
flons a mighty stream ot ca ma-tt-ritilH.
Th range Is extraordinary:
Lumber from the forests; wool
from, the k1u-qi; grata from the
fields; cattl from the ranges;
fruits from the orchards.
And, ihrouKh the Port of Port
land, en route to Eastern mami
tactui'iiiK centers cotton front
China; raw silk Irom the Olieui;
hard woods, including mahogany
from Clunlemala and the Philip
pines; ash, oak,' walnut, bamboo,
acacia and vahret front -Manchuria,
Japan, India, SouiU America; ve
getable and mineral oils tioni the
Orient; hemp; bristles; rubber, ni
trau; Jute; tin; snices; rice; nuts,
and so oil.
i "The whole list would fill a page.
U in wilh the damming of this
flood of raw materials that at pres
ent llow through Portland, anil the
converting ot them hito . finished
products, lhat the- future of Port
land is concerned.
The next few decades will sen
these raw materials these re
sources of Pacific and continuing
eastward iu the form of finished
products.
The evidence of the swing of In
dustrial dominance is unmistak
able. Several years ago- a group
of three hundred New England
bankers, capitalists and manufac
turers held' a conference for the
purpose of considering this indus
trial migration, unit if possible, to
devise some means of stemming
the tide.
lCconomlc laws, however, are In
exorable. The trend Is bolu Westward and
toward the source of the raw ma
terials, following always, of course,
favorable lines of economical con
version. The South Is maklmr its strldeB
in Ihe textile industry.
; The Middle West is hundlcapped
by Ita rigid winters, ottimes seri-
lously iJlterletliig with industry; its
umuiuce iroin uie source ot much
of the raw materials It converts;
and higher distribution costs as
sociated with interior freight rates.
What does Uie future hold for
a country that has none of these
handicaps, and la itself the source
of a staggering array of natural
raw materials?
Who. will venture to predict?
