The "Kipp plan" to put applo pro-;
duction in tlio Pacific northwest on
an Industrie) I basis was unani
mously adopted at a meeting of 250
growth's, shippers, railroad men
and representatives of chambers
of commerce hero rrhlay. Commit
tees were appointed lo et the or
ganization under way immediately.
This plan, proposed by R. JL
Kipp, Portland marketing expert,
calls for an organization of all
growers, including those affiliated
with' marketing groups; an organi
zation of shippers and agencies; an
advisory body of chambers of com
merce; business men and railroad
representatives, and a central
elearing house to be operated by a
representative of the I'nlted States
department of agriculture.
These, will be formed In fcacu of
four or1 five districts of Washing
ton, Oregon and Idaho. Actual oi
eratiou will nut be started until at
least 75 per cent of the growers
and shippers ou a tonnage basis
sign contracts.
Sell. rig and distribution are to be
co-ordinated, new markets are to
be sought nnd developed nnd a na
tional advertising campaign con
ducted with till groups sharing the
cost.
Growers who sign will agree to
ship only through members of the
shipping branch, while distribu
tors must report all details of
sales, fines being imposed for vio
jlation of contracts.
