O. C. Houser, of the Umpqua
national forest office, reports that
' so far us lookouts are able to ob
serve there are no new fires on the
forest. Vision is obscured, how
ever, by the steat volume of smoke
now hanging over the hills, so
(hat it is impossible to obtain an
accurate check ou the entire terri
tory held by the government.
Control has been gained over
the fires in the Devils Knob dis
trict near Tiller, and so far no
new fires have been started in that
locality.
