I Orant Taylor, for the past 21
year a resident or Winchester.
died at hia home yesterday at the
!age of 62 yearn. Death came late

Club at noon today and a splendid
talk by Dev. II. L. Caldwell ad
ded to the completeness of the
occasslon. Rev. Caldwell's talk
on the "Spirit of Christmas" wss
one of the finest ever heard by
the local club. The age-old story
of the birth of Christ was given
In an Inspiring manner and the
prophecy of "Peace on Earth,
(lood will Towards Men." was
modernised by hla comparison of
the Locarno Pesce treaty to the
present day need of better rela
tions not only between Individuals,
but between nations.
The All-Knight Orchestra, di
rected by Mrs. Knight, mother of
all the members, played four
beautiful numbers during the
noon hour. This organization Is
quite unique and their musical of
ferings were well received.

The Tucker amendment was
'opposed by Chairman Madden of
jthe appropriations committee and
Representative Iiyrnes, Tennessee,
ranking Democrat on the commit
tee. Mr. Madden said he voted
against the eighteenth amendment,
but since prohibition was law, he
favored enforcement '
"If people are opposed to prohi
bition," he said, "the manly thing
to do Is to repeal the law. If yon
adopt this amendment you will
make It unlnforcable.
He added that he did not ap
prove the tactics pursued bv the
prohibition agent at the Mayflower.
Representative Ttlanton said it Is
"the higher urvs who are making a
force of prohibition."
"Don't put the enforcement of
prohibition." he said. "In the hands
of a man whose finances are In
volved In enforcement."
- Langley Case Pending.
The special house committee ap
pointed to Investigate charges
against Representative John W.
Langley, Republican, Kentucky,
who was convicted of conspiracy to
violate the national prohibition
act, reported today that It under- i
stood he would resign from the
house In event his appeal to the
supreme court failed. ,
The committee held that It was
not the policy of the house to tak
action against a member accused t
of crime until the court of last re- i
sort had passed on the case.
Would Accept Europe's Bid. '' i
