The action of the state university
In choosing a football coach instead
of a president ought to simplify
the taxpayers' proposal for a mer
ger of the atate's two higher educa
tional Institutions, forming a super
university. . The two great requisites for such
an amalgamation are now assured.
Honors are even. The Oregon Agri
cultural college turnlahe the presi
dent at 110,000 a year and the Uni
versity of Oregon th football
coach at 18,500 a year. Given theae
two requisites, th combination is
aa simple, as that on a corner gro
cery aate.
Each Institution will therefor
furnish 60-50 of th ssentiala of
modern higher education and there
by eliminate rivalry and Jealousy
and the same policy can be follow
ed down the line. Thua the univer
sity can retain the courses allied
to foothill, now In the curricula.
Every rJay of your life you exchange real money for
certain products or services that you believe are "good as
gold."
You must have confidence in their merit -or - your
exchange is a gamble; a blind horse-trade that may mean
loss.
The products you know best the articles that rep
resent the greatest value are usually the products you
have seen advertised.
1 Only honest products can thrive in the light of pub
licity. The honest dealer advertises his faith in his pro
ducts to the world.
Read the advertisements and buy advertised pro
ducts. There is no other way to get more "good for your
gold"! . . .

Too Many Word Are
Given New Meaning
One wonders where language will
bring up one of time days. Every
new dictionary Is thicker than the
last Is It that there , a re too many
aew words, or It Is that people are

There ire a few newspapers that
ar still sticklers fur tba us of

yet It seems to be dipping back th

flood of os. More people, mora
newspapers appear to be using "se
cure" whr they mean "obtain"
than otherwise. The lexicon makers
hav surrendered to use and they
have listed "secure" as meaning
"obtsln." 80 It goes, many more
words are being used In their fig
urative sense until tbe usage be
comes matter of fact
80 one may ask where Is oar lan
guage tendency finally to bring apt
The final effect may be that w
shall cultivate th use ot so many
words and cultivate some of them
so far from their original meaning
that obscurity rather than clarity
will result Lansing Stat Journal.

Mr. Dickinson described the ad
