IS HIT BY AUTO
Henry Wood of Roseburg, was
quite badly Injured last night when
he was struck by an automobile,
the accident occurlng Just this
side of Cottage Orove, about seven
o'clock. He was badly bruised and
scratched, and his right shoulder
was crushed hi such a manner that
hospital care will be necessary for
some time before he will bo able
to return to hid home. The car
that atruck him continued on north
without atopplng.
Mr. Wood formerly resided at
Myrtle Creek but at the present
time la the proprietor of the
Orange Lantern restaurant, form
erly the Herrick House. He left
Roseburg yesterday with a friend
by automobile, bound for Eugene
where he expected to transact busi
ness mattera. His. friend stopped
at the outskirts of Cottage Grove,
and Mr. Wood started to walk to
the Cottage Orove depot to catch
a train for Eugene. He aw the
lights of the approaching car and
stated that he stepped off the
pavement, but was struck and
knocked Into the ditch by the side
of the road where he remained in
a dazed condition until he was
able to attract the attention of
passing motorists. He was brought
to Roseburg this morning on the
train and will receive care here.

CITY YESTERDAY
The southern' Oregon conference
of Methodist pastors held here
yesterday was attended by thirty
five ministers of the Ptirty charges
within the district, the percentage
of attendance being the aource of
much pleasure to those In charge.
The bishop and superintendent of
the four Oregon conferences at
tended. Reports were given by
ench pastor, detailing the work of
the past year and program for the
future. In the general discussion
of future work special emphasis
was placed upon the work of evan
gelism and benevolence.
In the evening Dr. Mark Free
man a missionary from Sumatra,
gave an Interesting and well at
tended lecture on his work.

Election of the directors of Ihe
Chamber of Commerce will take
place at the annual meeting and
banquet to be held at the Preaby
terlan church on Monday the 14th,
at 6:30 p. m. At a meeting held
yesterday It was decided to present
a proposal to amend the by-laws
to provide eight directors Instead
of aeven and that four aerve for
j two years and four for one year,

tors be elected each year, so that

men on the board at all times. The

not be reelected until the expira
