ROY BELLOWS TO
TRAVEL FOR CHICAGO
DRY GOODS FIRM
Roy E. Bellows, proprietor of
Bellows Radio Shop Is preparing to
close out his business in this city
and will move, shortly after the
first of t!ie year to San Kranclsco
to make his home. Mr. Bellows
has accepted a position as district
representative of St elf el and Nat
Eory of Chicago, a concern dealing
in dry goods specialties, and will
have Oregon and California as his
territory. He will cover the dis
trict between Oregon City and San
Diego, Roseburg being one of his
regular stops.
Mr. Bellows Is well qualified both
through experience and ability for
this line of work, having been en
gaged Jn the dry goods business for
many years prior fo entering" the
radio business.
He expects to close out his pres
ent stock before the first of the
year and will then move with his
family to San Francisco to reside
permanently.
POLISHING
To keep the nails really glossy,
they should be polished every day
with a fairly large, soft chamois
covered polisher. I have an eco
nomical trick which may appeal
to you. It is to keep two long
soft pieces of chamois leather
somewhere In the dressing table
drawer, and -to use them over the
buffer and put them away imme
diately afterward. They slay clean
longer that way, and clean lea
ther Is essential if the nails are
to look nice.
If you do not tint your nails,
you neel only one chamois. Hut
if you do, after the usual mani
cure, rub your pink paste over
the nails and then rub It In with
one of the leathers stretched
lightly over the polisher. Then
wash orf, for you cannot get a
real polish If there Is any grease
around the nails. And then polish
again with the new clean leather.
Here is a formula for clean lea
ther. Here is a formula for a
good polishing paste.
Three drachms of oxide of tin
three grains of tragucanth, half
a teaspoon of glycerine and a lit
tle powdered rouge to tint. Mix
the powders and rub the glycerine
in well.
Hy the way. a usfnl cream to
soften 'the skin around the edge
of the nails and to keep the nails
themselves from growing brittle,
is made by mixing half an ounce
of spermaceti and a quarter ounce
of lanollne. Mix by melting them
together.
Do you want something to
clean under dirty nails? There's
a very simple, effective prepara
tlon made by mixing a tablespoon
f ill of soft soap and a tablespoon-
ful of ammonia. Keep in a tiny
bottle and rub under the nails by
dipping in the end of orangewood
stick. This has the advantage of
washing out easily, which acid
bleaches do not, and It Is not so
drying. , ?
Mrs. George D. Fancy shoes
attraot attention to the feet.
do not wear them unlesa your feet
are well shaped andnottoo large.
When there Is any tendency for
the flesh to grow up along the
toenail, trim the nail Into a V
shape for a time to avoid having
to worry with an Ingrown nan
later.'
Two Misses. The reason why
blackheads sometimes form be
tween the shoulders Is due to
carelessness in bathing. Use a
flesh brush and scrub with hot
water and soap every day until
the skin is freed of them.

Appreciating the fact that many
women are atlli racking their
brains to think what to make for
this or that friend for Christmas.
I offer the following suggestions
for Inexpensive gifts.
Cat Sachets: These are very
new. They conslHt of a cat's head
made of satin taffeta ribbon, the
eyes, nose, and whiskers drawn on
the ribbon with black ink. To mane
them, take a four-Inch length of
pink ribbon which la two inches
wide, and double II; at the crease,
where It Is doubled, stitch dlagnal
ly on each corner thus making
kitty's ears! Then stuff the
"face," gather the ribbons togeth
er at the "neck," and shake some
violet sachet into the little open
ing before sewing it up tight and
covering the seam with s baby rib
bon bow.
The New Baby Blankets: Buy
two lengths of while flannel. Se
cure three sides together with
fcatherstltchlng done In pink mer-
cerlzed cotton (or bind the edges
with wash ribbon). Leave the
fourth side open like a pillow case,
Into this end slip a square of rub
ber the same size as the blankets.
These blankets are used on the
mother's lap when she holds baby.
If they are accidentally wet, they
may be washed out the rubber
being easily removed.
The New Rubber Bibs:' This Is
another up-to-the-minute article for
young children. It consists of an
egg-shaped piece of rubber with a
hole In It at the "pointed" end of
the egg. Through this hole goes
the little tot's head. How much
rlmpler It Is to draw auch a Dlb
over a child's head Instead of
having to fuss tying bib strings!
Any woman can decorate such a
bib attractively pinking Hb edges
and perhaps stencilling . some ,. de
sign on It.
New Book Bags: Although these
are shown tn leather tn the shops,
I see no reason why some heavy
material such as Imitation tapestry
or ren should not be used In place
of leather. They are made exactly
like a flat pockctnook wnicn nas
two leather handles: nut instead
of having a pocket for money In
the center, they open out flat and
the two covers of a novel slip Into
either side, then, when, the handles
are brought together again, the re
sulting effect Is that of a hand-bag.
Honks carried li a little case of
this sort do not show their titles
Indeed the entire cover of the vol
ume Is concealed. It Is much more
convenient to carry a book thus, by
handles, than under one's arm.
And because1 It Is neater and
smarter. I believe women will
welcome them.

Pudding.

ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS
Vaccination for Dogs.
Mrs. W You ask why we can
not get rid of rabies, that terrible
disease of "mad" dogs, which Is
such a menace to children.
I have read that Australia has
never had a case of rabies. The
reason? Very strict quarantine reg
ulations. No dog Is allowed to get
Into Australia that Is not quaran
tined until the authorities are sure
It Is free from disease. Knxland
was entirely free from rabies for
many years, but during the World
War some Infected dogs gained ac
cess by airplane.
Dogs ran be lmmunld against
rabies by vaccination. Any veterln-
sraln can do this. In some commu
nities anti-rabies dog vaccination
Is compulsory.
Togs suffering from rabies nol
only bile esch other but they bite
human beings snd other animals.
The disease Is one of the most aw
ful of all diseases, both In dogs
snd man. All dogs that are worth
keeping should be protected
against It, not only for themselves
but for the protection of hums.
