1 AT COTTAGE GBQVE
X few days ago a dispatch was
received from Cottage Grove, atat- !
Ing that the officers of that city ;
had placed a man under arrest
there upon instructions from the
Sheriff's office of Douglas Coun
ty, and that the local officers bad
failed to follow up the case, caus
ing the Cottage Grove authorities
to become peeved. The Item stat
ed that because of this action the
Cottage Orove officers would no
longer cooperate with the aheritf'a
office here.
8hediff Starmer stated today
that' he was out of the city at
the time he dispatch was receiv
ed, and that It was not called to
his attention until today. The
case did not originate in the she
riff a office, he stales, and none
ot bis deputies were concerned in
the matter.
The man arrested, who gave his
name aa Rasmussen. negotiated
considerable purchase at
local garage, and failed to
make payment. The garageman ,
trailed him as far as Sutherlln
and seeing that he . could not
catch up had Rasmussen stopped
ut Cottage Drove. - Rasmussen left
a spare tire aa security and the
gnrageman then refused to hold
him longer.
Sheriff Starmer yesterday cal
led up Deputy Sheriff Pitcher, at 1
Cottage Orove. and explained the
alliinlinti and tha same friendly I
relations which formerly existed
hot ween the offices have been re
stored. The Roseburg and Cot
tage Orove authorities have work
ed in rloae cooperation for a num
ber of yeara, and many lawbreak
ers have fallen victim to the vigil
ance of the authorltiea who thru
their close connections have ac
complished - much good for their
respective communities.
