must aoon be set to the retreat of
the Bulgarian forcea.
i "If the Greeks are not constrain-
ld to halt their offensive," says
the agency, "the Bulgarian army,
(though not numerous and not pos
sessed of much material, will not
look on much longer passively at
(Violation of the national soil and
will defend itself."
Denies Greek Assertions.
I The Bulgarian government has
sent a note to Athens reiterating
Ita denial that Bulgarian troops
have at any time violated Greek
frontier outposts, regretting that It
I cannot enter Into direct nour par-
lera with Greece and confirming Its
i desire to await the decision of tile
(league of Nation a council.
I The note, which is In reply to
the Oreek demands, declines all
responsibility for the frontier in
clilent and points out that al
! though the Bulgarian and Greek
views differed aa to the origin of
the trouble, the Sofia government
from the very first suggested that
a committee of Inquiry should be
appointed to Investigate tbe mat
ter and recommended that both
governmenta should direct their
armed forcea to cease hostilities.
Unfortunately, the note contin
ues, the Bulgarian proposal elicited
no reply, while on the other hand.
Greek troops advanced aeven miles
Into Bulgaria. Confronted by such
a grave situation, the Bulgarian
government had no alternative but
to appeal to the league. The note
expresses regret that It waa not
found, possible to carry on direct
pour parlera with Greece and says
Bulgaria now intends to 'await the
decision of the League
Greece BlaiVite Bulgaria.
ATHENS, Oct. 24 The Athens
agency maintains that the contin
ued advance of Greek troops on the
Bulgarian frontier la destined
merely to relieve a post at Demlr
Kapu, which the Bulgarians still
are attacking In order to prevent
the Greeks from re-occupying It.
The agency Inslsta that the com
mander of the third Greek corps
haa been forbidden to billet troops
or civilians In Bulgaria, but that
the Bulgarians are continuing hos
tilities. The agency also denies
that the town of Petrich waa delib
erately bombarded by the Greeks
and maintains that only a few
shells waa fired. Ihese being direct
ed against the railway atatlon to
prevent the debarkation of two
companies of Bulgarian reinforce
ments from Dubnitia.
