The bill for tho repair of the
city's fire truck, which burned out
a bearing at a fire last March, was
ordered paid last night by the city
council, after reaching a comprom
ise wtlh the company. At the time
the big Btutz pumper was deliver
ed to Kosebnrg an engineer was
sent here to Instruct tho fire de
partment in the use of the ma
chine. Shortly after his departure
the truck was used at a hlllsido
fire and a bearing was burned out,
and It later develoed that the oil
pump on the truck is so located
that oil does not get to the bear
Inits when tho front end 1b down
hilt. As a result of this condition
a connecting rod bearing was
burned nut and one cylinder badly
scored. The Howard-Cooper corpor
ation, through which the machine
was purchased, sent two mechanics
to the city to make repairs and
submitted a bill covering the cost
of the parts and tho expenses of
the mechanics. The city refused
to pay, claiming That tho depart
ment was not adequately instruct
ed, as was agreed upon In tho con
tract. At the meeting last night Mr.
Nelson, the company's represcma
U c. agreed to bear the cost of the
n.echaulcs' expenses, asking the
city to pay only the actual cost of
the broken parta. t'pou this bas

Last ni glu s session was a busy
one, and quite lengthy.
A complaint was received from
O. V. Wlmberly, who protests the
appearance of a fire hydrant in
blalled on East Ia:ie street. The
water main was only a few Inches
under the surface of the ground,
and when the hydrant was instal
led It stuck up so far Into the air
thm it became unsightly, he claims.
The committee on fire and water
wus ordered to Investigate.
It. C. Da.-by filtd a petition slat

in front of his property to be pav

to bond tho same. The street pav
