As an alternative to formation of

sense of the meeting that coopera

bona fide assurance of road con

reasonable length of time could be
received, would be preferable to
direct opposition to the I'mpqua

Some time ago Mayor George E.
Horn-It met with the atate highway
commission, and made a. request
that Roseburg be furnished with a
number of signs directing motorists
to the Pacific highway. Although
the highway is plainly routed
through town, yet many people
stray off onto side streets and are
unable to find their way back to
the highway without going to the
trouble of asking for directions.
The mayor advocated the placlLg
of signs on a number of the side
streets so that motorist would
have Yo trouble in locating the
main thoroughfare. His plan met
with a hearty approval and the
commission agreed to furnish the
signs. The city had agreed to in
stall them, but the highway depart
ment was so well pleased that they
not only furnished the signs but
placed them as well, following B
conference with the mayor regard
ing proper locatlona. Roseburg la
now the only city In the state
where such signs are in use, but
the plan haa met with so much
favor that It is expected that mark
era will be put in other cities at
once.
