Over one-half of the cars ot
Diamond Lake this year were
from California; and came to
that place as their final objective,
and upon completion of the visit
by the parties went directly back
to California, according to Forest
Supervisor. Carl II. Neal, who
with his family returned last
night from an extended trip
through Eastern Oregon.
'The fame of Diamond Lake as
a resort la rapidly spreading
throughout California." Mr. Neal
says, "and hundreds ot cars from
thut state visited the lake this
year. These cars went in fcom
Medford, and wen bark out the
same way. In particular every
case, and came no further north
than Medford. It Is plainly evi
dent that with the completion of
the North t'mpqua Road that most
of these will go In by way of
Medford and come back through
Koseburg.

The fire season thia year pas-

Mr. Neal states. There were 40
fires, 24 of which were ea lined by
lightning, and 1 of which were
man-caused. Of these 10 fires
convictions were obtnlned In 7
cases.
There were three fires over 10
acres In size, S fires between ono-
lourtn acre and 10 acres In size,
and 28 lees that a quurier acre.
Altogether fire burned over 272
acres, one fire, that at Urassy
Hanch, being 210 acres in extent.
The cost of fire prevention was
$2,500.
The fire prevention forces are
now being withdrawn, the rains
having eliminated all danger from
forest tres. The lookouts are
rloalng their statinna and making
them secure for the winter, while
tools are being cleaned and oiled
and stored away for the wet season.
