An amusing auto accident occur
red yesterday afternoon at the
corner of Cass and Rose streets,
when a couple of flivvers did a fox
trot in the intersection, and finally
leaned against the lamp and tele
phone poles for support. One car
was going south on Rose and the
other west on Cass. The car on
' Cass street k truck the one coming
in from Rose, and started . It
across the street, where the swerv
ing machine wound Itself around a
liht post. The other driver swung
south Into Rose street and looking
back to see w-hat had happened,
turned his own car Into a telenhone
pole. Neither car was badly dam
aged, and no one was Injured, al
though one woman had a close
escape when the car turning Into
Rose street almost b truck her.

COLLECTED IN DRIVE
The efforts of the Roseburg Fire
department to clean up the accumu
lated piles of old paper and rags,
constituting a fire menace In the
city, resulted In the securing of
over 15 tons of rags and paper to
be shipped to Portland. Boy Scouts
collected several thousand pounds
of paper to add to their cump
fund, while numerous children
earned considerable money by gath
ering paper from house tc house.
Many people, however, are reserv
ing paper for the P. T. A. collection
which is made each year.
