Price. 41, prominent Fugene shoe
merchant, died early this morning
at. a locI hospital, following an
automobile accident on the McKen
zle hkhway nar Springfield sev
eral hours earlier. Mr Price wns
returning from a party at the E.
C. Simmons summer home on the
McKcnzle when the accident oc
curred. Ills sedan skidded in the
loose gravel at the sharp turn In
the highway leadtnr Into Spring
field, and overturned.
Mrs. Simmons, who was riding
with Mr. Price, was cut and
bruised, but was renorted to be
resting easity at her home todav.
Mr. Price was apparently not
nndly Injured, It was said. He and
Mrs. Simmons walked a mile and
a half to the farm housp to tele
phone, end nfter their arrival In
Kugene Mr. Price told of the acci
dent, ills head pained due to a
severe gash over his left eve, ex
tending over the scalp, nn l he de
cided to go to the hospital for an
examination. He died under the
anaesthetic.
It hs not been ascertained, ac
cording to attending physician,
whether death was direct'y due to
the snaesthelc or to the strain of
the long walk frdlowing the acci
dent, and possible hemorrhage of
ihe brain.
He had been In business' In Eil

here from Kalem, where he had al
so berm In business. Prior to that
time, he. together with his fnther
and brother, had operated a bank

Mrs. Price and daughter, Jean,
who have been visiting in the middle-west,

a number of his friends went to
Portlsnd to brlnv them home.

Ir. w. C. Belt, county physician,
left this morning on his annual va
cation. He and his family are go
ing to Newport, where they will be
joined next week by the doctor's
brother, Harry Belt of Winnipeg,
Canada.
