The wholesale slaughter was fi
nally halted by the intervention of
American and British sailors. It
was said. Lieutenant Faure, com
mander of the British gun boat
Robin, pleaded with the mob in
the native language and finally per
snmt'Ml its members to deliver their
captives to Chinese police. Hun
dreds of Yunnanese were said to be
disturbances.
