AT MYRTLE CREEK
Mrs. E. S. Lasley. of San Fran
cisco, Cat. was Injured yesterday
evening at Myrtle Creek, when the
car In which she and her husband
were riding, was struck by another
car driven by California tourists,
on the state bridge Just north of
Myrtie Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Lasley,
who were on their way to Beaver
ton Oregon, were driving north,
and were Just crossing the bridge,
when the other parties, going
south, also drove on the bridge.
For some unknown reason the two
machines collided near the center
of the bridge, the woman being
thrown through the wiudshield,
and to the pavement..
She sustained a deep gash above
the left eye, the scalp being cut
open to the bone. She waa rushed
to this city, where her Injuries
were treated by Dr. Shoemaker,
and removed to Mercy hospital. Al
though painfully injured her con
dition Is not serious.
Between fifty and seventy-five
automobiles, bearing members of
the Artisan Lodge to the conven
tion to be held at Grants Pass Sat
urday and Sunday, arrived In the
city yesterday afternoon shortly af
ter 4 o'clock, following an un
eventful trip from Portland, and
spent the night here. The visitors
were met by delegations of the
Umpqua Chiefs and Squaws and
were welcomed to the city by this
hospitality club. Drill teams from
all parta of Oregon were In the
party, and these were entertained
at a banquet by the Roseburg lodge,
following which a street parade
was held, led by the American Le
gion Drum Corps, with the Ump
qua Chiefs, and Squaws, the uni
formed drill teams, and nearly 200
other members of the , Artisan
lodge participating.
The remainder of the evening
was given over to a colorful dance
at the Armory. The gay drill tea.n
costumes gave a piquant charm to
the event, both for the dancers
and the spectators.
The various drill teams put on
their evolutions during the prog
ress of the dance, giving a pro
gram which was greatly enjoyed.

state highway commission late
yesterday ordered 18 highway pro
jects advertised for the June meet
ing, Including two sections of The
Da.les-Califomia highway, 11 miles
between Bend and Lava Butte, and
13.4 miles in Klamath county, from
the Deschutes county line to Cres
cent. The commission ordered adver
tised the Bly Mountain section In
Klamalh, on the Klamath Falls
Lakeview highway, 13.4 miles.

for burns because of the theft
of $20,000 worth of radium in a
holdup.
John Gllllatio, a city employe,
was carrying the radium In a lead
box wrapped in brown paper out
of Ihe home of Ir. Isaac Levin
when he was felled by a blow on
the bead. His asaailunt grabbed
the package and made off with
two companions in a wnltln taxi.
The police expressed confidence
that tire radium would prove tne
undoing of the thieves, because of
its powerful rays, which have
fatally burned many scientists ex
perlmenting with It.
