. WHAT 1800 FAMILIES KNOW
ABOUT ELECTRIC COOKING
Vclipoiwia Oregon
power. company
' YOUR PAWNERS
IN PROGRESS
Tl 1 EY will tell you it is a new kind of luxury
one that doesn't cost more to enjoy. ,
Of course you have always appreciated the ad
vantages of cooking by electricity. You know that
it means no more fuel to carry; no more ashes to
lug. You know that electricity is the ideal cook
ing heat; economical because it is turned on when
you need it not before; turned off when you're
through not later.
But perhaps you would like to know exactly what
it costs in dollars and cents. The 1800 satisfied
families who now use electric ranges served with
electricity by this company would gladly show
you their bills, if they could.
We have made an average of these bills, so that
we may give you the facts. The average cost of
electric lights alone in all homes served by this
company in Oregon is $2.20 a month. The aver
age cost of their electric lights and electric cook
ing together is $5.62 a month.
For the difference, could you buy ordinary fuel
for cooking? And if you could, would you want
to ? Whenever you decide to investigate this ques
tion of electric cooking closely, your nearest deal
er will tell you many interesting things. And he
is prepared to install your new electric range at
once, .on convenient terms.

Plans for the formation nf a rnn.
solidatcd road district, including all
of the districts east of Hoseburg.
for the purpose of paving the road
leading east of town to Dlionville
using special tax and market road
money, is being widely discussed,
and may result in such acUon be
ing taken this year.
The districts to bs Included In
this consolidation nr-j us follows:
lioad district Number 2. which Is
the Glide district, having a valua

Knad district 33, which Is the

lioad district 36. w hich is the
Peel district, having a valuation of
fc!il,27ii.
lload district 3D. which Is the
South Deer Creek district, having a
valuation or ;i)7.'jil.
Uoad district 47. which Is the Jim
Short district, or Sunshine road,
having a vulualion of $'.17,430.
koihi illslrlct 4S, which Is the
Mill Singleton district, having a val
uation of tlii4.H0.
Hoar! district 71, which is the
North I'mpqua. or Itock Creek dis
trict, having a valuation of 2t8,
51(1. The total valuation of the consol
idated district would be $2,OS4.X70,
which with n levy of a ten-mill tax
would give over 120,000 special tax,
each year.
Under the law- the county court
would be required to match the
funds of such a consolidated dis
trict with market road money,
which would give approximately
$42,000 each year, enough money to
pave nearly two miles with 16 foot
wide concrete each year, accord
ing to estimates of County Koad
master Krear.
Mr. Frear suggests that the pav
ing be done along the same line as
at Glcndale w here one half width
pavement was laid, giving a strip
X feet In width. Mr. Frear suggests
that this pavement be laid on the
rlk-ht hand side of the road coming
tow arils Knseburg. which would
give the fanner coming to market
with his produce a paved road all
the way. This road could also be
used by outgoing traffic, but ti-affl"
from tbe city would be forced to
turn out for the farmers coming In,
giving the load right of way. This
scheme works out very well at
Glendnle, Mr. Frear states.
Ily laying this one-half strip of
pavement, it would bo possible to
pave the road for a distance of be
tween 3J and 4 miles the first year.
The second year the road could he
wllcntd lo ihe full 16 feel, or an
other s foot strip laid. Just as desir
ed.
The plan will probably bo taken
up with the granges and kixriiycr.,
residing within the affix-Id --trii-ts,
and if the plan meet wIMi
general approval, p-titious will
prepared tor signatures. Th." pro
ject would theu come bffoio n

Cohan always revels in funny
situations and in "So This is Lon

most side splitting sort. The dia
logue is said to be witty and
humorous with a delicate vein of
satire permeating the whole. The
offering is a studyin contrast, that
