THE OLD FASHIONED HOME
; It is announced that the General Federation of Women's
Pliiba is in nramnto n tYinvumanr rn vaetnrn tha nlrl fflahionpd
- home. It might be hard to define just what the old fashion-
', ed home was. In many of them there was little spirit of cul-
; ture. Many of them were singularly lacking in books and on-
portunities for enjoyment. Their intimates followed con-
ventional habits. Homes of that typo would not fit these
times. Probably the thing about the old fashioned home that
will seem most desirable of reproduction, would be its at-
tractiveness as a center of activity. That home filled a big
'. gtr place in the minds of the people of those days. People
' remained in their homes more, used them more freely for
recreation. That may not be because of any particular prin
ciple, but because there was Jess going on elsewhere. The
young people sat down at home to play high low jack and
checkers, primarily because they knew of no other way to
fill their time. With automobiles and movie shows and oth
er interests now, it is hard to reproduce the old conditions.
The children would come up better if they could be induced
to make more use of their homes. There is no place where
they are so secure from deterioration. There was never a
time when the parents would do more to make homes inter
esting. If the young folks want juvenile literature or mu
sic, their parents will do almost anything for them. If the
children of coming years quiet down a little from their pres
ent assertiveness, they may realize that their homes can be
a fine center of culture and enjoyment. Perhaps they will

Miami, Florida, the playground of the millionaires, was
swept by a devastating tornado yesterday. The rich old boys
must have realized for a moment that they won't be able to
take their wealth with them when they leave this sphere.
" Old Roseburg is making mighty fine progress. Scaffold

A dear ol' soul haa written to

us why we are alwaya Insistin' on
