Instead of stringing paving out
In piece-meal quantities, it la the .
aim of the present city council to'
group all of the Improvements for;
one year Into one big contract, and
let the jobs all at the same time.
This .Is a proposition which has
been discussed for several years, .
but never before put Into execu
tion, and It is expected that cheap-,
er paving will be the result.
Heretofore, paving jobs have
been put out to bid a block or two
at a time, so that contractors In
bidding were forced to take Into
consideration Items which on big
contracts could have been dlstrlb-j
uted over a much greater amount
of paving. By grouping the Jobs It
is believed that this will permit
lower bids. The fact that the
amount to be done will total many
thousands of dollars, will also en
courage outside competition, which
will result In the bids being made
as low as possible.
At the meeting last night propos
als were made for the paving of
about 20 blocks, some being In the
form of petitions, while others are
still under discussion. Petitions
