Mrs. Pansle H. Laphan, of Portland.
Oregon. Mr. Freyer also leaves
two brothers and two sisters to
mourn his departure; Chas. L
Freyer. of Kellogg, Wallace Freyer
of Elkton, Mrs. Sarah Hutchinson!
of Veneta, Oregon and Mrs. Oral
Tapp, of Tacoma, Washington. His
body was brought to Scottsburg and
was Interred in tbe cemetery there.

Fife for the first time In my life,
on Friday afternoon of last week.!
His faniily or relatives, I never met.
He asked me thou, to allow him to
get out a church calendar. 1 re
fused. He called again on the
morning following, with the same
request. I tuld him that I was not
thinking of getting any out. He
showed mo letters of recommenda
tion from clergymen of different
denominations, and calendars
brought out by him for various
churches. He told me that he was
looking for work and had not suc
ceeded. He mentioned the names
of prominent people In Roseburg
whom he said knew him and his
relatives personally. Finally I al
lowed him to try, although I told
him, 1 was dubious of the result.

was made good afterwards, would
be unthinkable. If the officers of
the law decide otherwise the rem
edy lies in their bands.
It Is pitiable to be forced lo
add, that the religious tenets of
the accused did not influence mo In
this stand. 1 know them not, his
religious persuasions If any would
not have Influenced me one way or
the other. Any other suggestion
veiled, or otherwise, is unworthy of
you, unfair to me, and contrary to
truth.
