PRACTICAL YOUNG FOLKS
There are now 400,000 high school girls who are taking
courses in domestic science, and 3,700,000 girls in the el
ementary schools are studying the same subject. 'The young
girl of to-day is growing up more practical than her critics
woulii have us believe. In some cities where these courses
arte given, the instruction may be so limited that the girls do
n4t get much practical benefit. The equipment may often
be; so .meager that the girls do not get a chance to do the
wprk themselves. It is one thing to watch a teacher perform
scant cooking operation, and quite different for a girl to do
th thing herself.
'.But even where the opportunities are far from satis
factory, these girls feel a new respect for housewifery. The
ability to keep up a home well is made to seem like an inter
esting art, instead of some dreadful piece of drudgery. In
former years, many girls took it as a matter of course that
if! they made a good marriage, their husbands would be able
to provide a servant to help them, so that they could be
spared the regular work of cooking and cleaning. But very
few of the younger men can do that today. If the girls want
hemes of their own, most of them will have to take hold and
work with their own hands. They are usually glad to do so.
They can fairly ask, of course, that the husbands shall be
practical too, and show a willingness to take hold and help
with the home tasks. With conditions like this, it would seem
as if every girl ought to have some training in the home arts
so that from the date of her marriage she should be able to
maintain a comfortable home. The chances for a happy
marriage are greatly increased if she can acquire this form
of skill.

set for their 10-round no-decision
bout at the auditorium here to
night. 'While nelther's title wtit be at
stake, except In the event ot a
knockout, a decisive point victory
for either promised a future of big
money bouts. Outstanding of
these loomed a match for Tunney,
the American light heavyweight
champion, with Tommy Gibbons,
St. Paul heavyweight. In order to
land this fight, however, Tunney
must win by a large margin from
Greb. who bold'a the world's mid

Speculation as to the outcome of
