My church Involves privileges. It la my church, not the rector's, not the Vestry's, but mine.' 2. It is my church, not because of work I do for It or glfta 1 make to it, but by virtue of my Baptism. I am born In to it. I am a member of the family. 2. It is my church and as a mem ber of the family, 1 have certain rights and privileges, such aa the right to worship, the right to the sacraments, the right to the serv ices of the clergy. These I do not ask as a favor. 1 take them for granted. No invitation Is needed any more than I need an invitation to my dinner or the social inter course with my family, or to the advice of my father. Sociability and a warm welcome are pleasant and desirable. They are not necessary nor will their absence affect my claiming and using my privileges. No one can drive me away from my church. A story is told of a Scotch woman, who had quarreled with her minister. On seeing her in church the following Sunday he ex pressed surprise, to which she re torted, "Young man, my quarrel was with you, not with the Lord." My church Is my father's house, and no human failures or delin quencies will weaRen my loyalty to Him or affect my standing or atti tude as a member of the family. My church Imposes responsibilities. The possessive pronoun my always Involves responsibilities. When a sovereign saya my subjects, or a physician my patients, or a lawyer my clients, or a priest my people. It Implies serious and solemn re- sponslbilies for tbem. So, when I say my church, it likewise Implies responsibilities. Since it is my church, I will do my part In wor ship by being regular and prompt In attendance and by reverent and earnest participation. I will do my part to create a warm,, kindly at mosphere. I will not so much look for a welcome as give it 1 will not so much expect to be called upon but instead do some calling myself. It is my church, 1 am the host and all strangers and visitors are guests and I will treat them accord ingly. Since It Is my church, 1 will do my part financially. Instead of complaining when money is asked for, 1 shall be anxious to find out what are the needs and meet them to the best of my ability. 1 shall en deavor to get beyond the Sunday school age in giving. The church is my mother. If my mother Is in need I want to help her. Since it is my church. I will endeavor to view it with the same interest as I do my home. I shall take an interest In all Its activities and shall always be glad to know what the Sunday school and the various Guilds are doing. I shall be interested in the physical structure and endeavor to discover things that may be done to enhance its beauty and useful Doss. I will take a pride in Its ap pearance and endeavor to have it a model for all buildings In the town. Since It Is my church, I will magnify Us reputation, will allow DO criticism to go unchallenged, will be careful to make none my- una i nm to cover con u oUrk hira .rx r etc. tffloaou U J J t-enrj Entitle acery fader to th!$Neu Enlarge J Univertitie Dictionary Wakm fmMmt tmmmt wOttliMio - ' self, t will ho lnua fnr tnv churches reputation and Jealous for ber honor. Slnoa It la my church, I will endeavor to be aa asiet and not a Uublllty. A plus and not a minus quantity. I will endeavor to realise that as an army la compos ed of priyatea as well as officers. so a church Includes parishioners a well as clergy, and the strength of the church depends upon the loyal and hearty cooperation of all. Every layman la enlisted In service by the very terms of his Baptism when he Is pledged to "Confess the faith of Christ Crucified and man fully to fight under His banner against ain. the world and the I devil, and to continue Christ's faithful soldier and servant unto hia life's end." - Since It la my I church. I will endeavor to love It as did the Master. He loved the church and gave Himself for It An ancient Roman writer says that ' while It la true that men loved Florence because Florence was great It la also true that Florence became great bcaua men loved It And he goes on to aay: "If men had loved Plmllco aa men loved Florence, Plmllco would have be come as great aa Florence." This Is an eternal trust Men love things -because they are great and things became great because men loved it ' them. We love the church be cause of what Is It And In propor tion as we love it, it will become what It ought to be. Let us love the church. Rev. A. O. Dodge, Vicar.
