MAKE SAFETY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
DETROIT. Mich.. March 17.
Families of moderate or limited
means, who heretofore hesitated
about purchasing cars, are coming
into the automobile buying field
In greater numbers than ever be
fore, If records of the Kord Motor
Company's Weekly Purchasing
Plan may be taken as an indica
tion. The plan, launched not quite
two years ago, was started chiefly
to give such people an opiwrtunity
to enjoy the benefits and pleas
ures of motor car transportation
and those taking advantage of It
are growing in numbers every
day. It Is a simple, the prospec
tive purchaser making weekly
payment of an amount best suit
ed to his Individual means, these
payments becoming part ot a bank
account until such time as the
purchaser has a sufficient sum to
take delivery of his car.
Details of the operation of the
plan, as just given out by the
company, show that from a com
paratively few daily enrollments
during the first month, the num
ber has steadily risen Qntll now
more than seven hundred people
are enrolling every day through
out IJie country, a rather remark
able public endorsement of the
plan.
The records also show that
there are at present more than
1110.000 persons on the Weekly
Purchase Plan roll and that more
than 166,000 already have recelv
I ed their cars under the plan.
These figures seem to bear out
' predictions made when the plan
I was inaugurated, that It would
exert a wide Influence toward less
ening extravagant. buying with its
consquent embarassments, and in
stead afford a practical means for
car ownership In which all mem
bers ot the family can participate.

Production figures on the Star
sport coupe Just received from H.
W. Curtis, director of sales at the
Oakland plant ot the Durant Mo
tor Company of California, Indi
cate that this little ear is going
to shake all sales records on the
Coast.
"When we first decided to put
the sport coupe in regular produc
tion," says Curtis In a recent let-
I ter to Kapp Brothers, local Star
! dealers,, "we did not. appreciate
j Just what a sensation this little
I model was going to be.
"It has been a good many
months since the first sport coupe
made Its appearance and thous
ands of them are now In the
hands of owners. Everywhere it
has been shown there has boen a
steady Increase In - sales, until,
with the Introduction of the new
million dollar motor, the demand
on the part of the public has de
veloped Into a veritable landslide,'
i so great In fact that we have been
I at our wits ends to keep our
dealers supplied.
"The Star car was conceived
In the midst of the greatest chan
ges In automobile construction
that the Indutitry has ever known.
While the Star car was in the
making, the Durant engineers had
; only to choose from thev great
variety of wanted Improvements
that were being offered for the
approval of the buying public.
"Star, therefore, stsn-id Its
career with a big lead in the small
car field. Through the foresight
nf Durant engineers, even the
earliest cars came out equipped
with such universally accepted
items as four-wh'l brakes, disc
clutch, force feed engine lubrica
tion, and as production grew to
enormous figures they Were able
to add such desirable extras at
cord and full balloon tires as re
gular factory equipment.

In the spring an automobile

The results ot such manuul la

chances to be a couple of years
old, there are some tell-tale marks
that reveal age.
It was because of the fact that

CHURCHILL MAY BE
HEAD NORMAL SCHOOL
(Aanelalad Steal Leafed Wira.1
SALEM. Ore.. Mar. 18. J. A.
Churchill, who for about 12 years
baa been state superintendent of
schools is being mentioned prom
inently. for the presidency of the
state normal school at Ashland
when the school Is revived under
an act ot the 1925 legislature. It is
understood the number ot candi
dates will be large and that many
applications are already in the
hand of the regents.
While Ashland people and some
others about the stale believe the
school can be opened next Septem
ber .this will probably be impos
sible because of the time that will
be required to construct the new
class room building for which
1175,000 was appropriated. This
makes It doebtful whether a presi
dent will be elected by the state
normal school regents priqr to
1326 and whether the school can
start with its own faculty by the
summer school session of - next
year. Each year branch normal
summer school sessions are held
at Ashland and Pendleton and this
program will again be followed
this year.
