"f
In this serin of snides I wsnt to
csll attention to the msnr errors one
besrs in the regular wslts of life.
It as? be well to begin witB the
business nun. He is big enough to
besr bii ihire of the burden snd
generslly spesking, he is somevrast
csreleii in bis selection of words.
Ususllr the business msn bss two
distinct of language. One it
for his direct conversation; the other
is for eicluiive uie in hit corre
spondence. In the Utter are "Yours
to bind content, noted now as to
vsluei trusting your favors and
msnr other terms that he never uses
in personal contscts.
Hit tslet talk is more likely to be:
"Nobody's got no better those kind
of goods them two psir of short"
and other tuch cs relets expressions
thst any school boy can correct.
The business msn" should bsve a
third vsriety of Isngusge to ute in
bit home. But be carries this, trade
talk back into the family circle, and
toon hit daughter it uting double
negstivet, saying "Those kind" in
stesd of "Thst kind,", snd referring
to "Two psir' jQMead ol Tw3 I
pairs." I
Such men are likely to say that
they never had time to learn how
to speak correctly.' AU right, they
can gain time now by learning. It
does not require so much time to
learn the proper use of words aa it
does to speak Incorrectly. "I ain't
got none" takes longer to say than
"I have none", and other correct
expressions are equally shortened.
The newly compiled and greatly
enlarged dictionary la the place to
begin and this newspaper 'an
nounces this plan through which
every reader may have a copy of
this beautiful new volume. In
learning to apeak correctly, noth
ing Is quite so necessary.
