stem of Oregon is provided In
house bill 264, by Shrork. which
passed the legislature and which
will become effective .; midnight
August 31. Prior to that time
Secretary of State Kozer may In
stitute a campaign of education
through the state traffic depart
ment to make the motorists of the
state familiar with the new regulations.
The new system is now used in
! California and Idnho and is being
, adopted by Washington. Head-
i lights, spotlights and fog lights
are affected and signal lights on
buses.
j The position of head lanps is
fixed at not less than 24 or more
' than 60 Inches above the surface
of the highway and the act pro
I vldes that It b.i Impossible to
move them so tae beam of light

the lamp. The act will apply to
"eight point test", which is ap
proved by the Illuminating Light-

United States. The act provides

The act requires the adoption of
certain lenses and reflector de
vices. At present there are 27
different makes of lenses and re
flectors that meet requirements

The cost of the lenses rnnge from
-30 cents a pair to 13 or 4. To
determine what lenses shall be
used In Oregon manufacturers
i will be required to submit to the
secretary of slate their particular
lenses, with descriptions and in
struction as to bow they are to
be applied. The secretary of state
will submit them to the 1'nlted
States Bureau of Standards for
test. If this report of the bureau
of stnndurds shows they comply
iwlth tho eight point test law. the
i secretary of state will issue to the
J manufacturer a certificate ap
proving the sale of his equipment
in Oregon.
The act will allow of only one
spotlight on a car. It must be on
the left side with the benin dlrect
1 ed to the right side of the road.
It must be stationary so that It

of tools.

hibition aRents, left here hurried
ly this morning for their homes in
Klamath Falls following dismissal

mit murder against George Pappas
in which the two agents appeared
as witnesses.
Pappas engaged In a gun battle
with the prohibition agents last
November when, according to Pap
pas, they forced an entrance to
his home while a dinner party was
in grogress. Pappas testified he
thought at the time that the two
were highwaymen.
