I START MONDAY (Continued Irom page one) Columbia Terra Cotta company of Vancouver for the terra cotta. The plans for tne remodelling of the Douglas National Bank building will follow along classic lines. The large terra cotta columns forming the recessed entrance and orna mental metal doors are suggestive of the purposes for which the building is to be used. With the use of a tan-colored scratchface brick and terra cotta trimming to har monize will create a building of pleasing effect Steel plate girders will be Incorporated In the revised construction of the banking room that will permit of the removal of the present interior, columns, so, that a spacious lobby can be provid ed In the center with the presi dent's office, cashier's space and working counters arranged on the sides. At the end of the lobby will be the two massive steel doors opening Into the safety deposit vault and coin vault I This will be th'e first bank to be constructed In the state of Oregon to use "Don steel" for doors and vaults. This Is a new metal that will' successfully resist both oxy acetylene torch and power drill. Torch experts failed to penetrate this steel after an attack lasting several hours. The tests were made with the latest oxy-acetylene burn ers which eat through the same thickness of other steel in from four to five minutes. Large power drills failed to penetrate this steel after exhaustive tests. , In adopt ing "Don steel", the Douglas Na tional Bank has further exemplified its policy of progressive safety. The entrance to . the banking room will be at the front center on Jackson street, through a marble vestibule with swinging glass doors, Into a central lobby 17 ft. wide by 35 ft long. On the right of the lobby Is si lun ted1 a private office with desk space for officers, follow ed by four cages for paying and re ceiving tellers. On the opposite side is a writing room for men customers and one for women. Ad Joining this is desk room fur offi cers and three cages for paying and receiving, with windows aleo pro vided for exchange and statements. Entrance to the two vaults is train ed from the rear of the lobby; the door on the left leading to the safety deposit vault and coupon booth for customers use.
