The president's physician this
morning issued a bulletin which
road: "The president suddenly
fell 111 at noon on February 23
with ft severe case of appendicitis
which necesslated an operation
that night. Despite the fact that
the operation . was undertaken
soon after the Illness developed,
the appendix wa3 found badly in
flamed and partially punctured,
so that peritonitis developed.
"The course of the illness was
satisfactory until late last night,
but as often happens on the third
day, the peritonitis became worse
