WASHINGTON, Feb. 26. By a
vote of 284 to 95 the Dickinson co
operative marketing bill was pass
ed today by the house.
The measure approved as a sub
stitute for the Haugen proposal
reported by the agricultural com
mittee as a bill carrying out the
recommendations of the presi
dent's agricultural commission
now goes to the senate with its
fate problematical.
Mr. Dickinson, predicting enact
ment of the measure Into law. said
he had assurance that Senator Mc-

lead a fight for favorable senate

tee was not Inclined to be hostile
to it.

King George's Illness Alarms
WASHINGTON. Feb. 26 A
second and final vole was in or
der In the house today on adoption
of the bill substituted yesterday
for the Capper-Hnugen measure
drafted by the agricultural com
mittee to carry out the co-operative
marketing recommendations
of the president's agriculture con
ference. The substitute measure
was offered by Representative
Dickinson, republican. Iowa, a
leader of the farm bloc who said
I his bill also was designed to em
body the conference suggestions
on cooperative marketing.
Chairman Hnugen, of the agri
culture committee predicted the
Dickinson substitute would pre
vail today, pointing out thnt Its
adoption yesterday was brought
about by a coalition of democrats
or insurgents who he said would
supnort tt in a record vote.
The substitute measure which
Mr. Haugen declared would nullify
the conference recommendations
of the subject differs from the
Capper-llaugen bill principally by
eliminating the requirement for
government nudltlng, licensing
nnd regulation. As approved yes
terday. the Dickinson proposal al
so carries an amendment Increas
ing applications for the depart
ment of agriculture and broaden
ing Its scope of activities under
the Capper-Volstead act.
