The automobile came Into be
iiLg cause there was a demand
j for it. Alan nerdetf a new form
jol transportation to ineet thecom-
plexities of his advancing civili
tzalion and the automobile proved
to be the solution to this problem,
j There was no need to create a
market lr it. The market already
existed and the automobile w as
created to mipply the needs of
that mtirket.
'J he automobile could not piny
the vital part in the world's rfte
that it does today if the demand
for it had been artificially creat
ed. If the demand for it had not
e'.iHted, it would have been mere
ly one more addition to the list
of useless inventions that cluttur
the patent ofiiees of the nation,
lis brief appearance would have
made hardly a ripple in the
stream of advancing humanity.
With sailing vessels Columbus
discovered a new world and sail
ing vesesls brought to It the lirsl
j conquering armies and the lirst
adventurous settler, iiut there
was need for a still belter Dak
with the old world from which
had to be drawn so much of the
material necessary to the develop
ment of new countries. Accord
ingly the steamboat was invented.
White inventions such as the
steamboat and the stearu engine
meant much to the progress of
nation .i, they did not have such
a direct bearing on the individual.
'lie still found himself behind the
J march of events, lie needed uet
! ter means of communication and
j the telegraph was invented for
I him. Still remained the need for
;a more personal means of com
j muntcation and the telephone
came into being.
Nowhere was progress more
essential than in the iield of per
sonal transportation. Horse
drawn vehicle proved inadequate
to the demands of modern lite. 1
Railroads could not turn from
their appointed course. Some-'
thing more flexible and yet fully
as dependable and Hpeedy was re- J
ing parts in-stalled only by ser
vice stations approved by the lac
tory which builds their car. Few
outsider are interested n what,
you think of your car, or how
long it will last, or whether you
will ever buy another of the same
make. They are chielly concern
ed with the immediate profit. The
long discount they gel on counter
feit parts makes the business at
tractive to them until they stop
to realize what It may mean to
the purchaser.
'The automobile manufacturer
Is in the business of building au
tomobiles. He makes 'party be
cause they are a necessity and a
convenience to his patrons. Hut
he makes them as well as he
knows how, because he realizes
that it is absolptely necessary for
him to have the car owner's good
Mill if he is to remain in business.
One or two defective minor parts,
even though, not important In
themselves, might easily cause an
owner to condemn the car as a
whole. Ths is what the manu
facturer tries to avoid. That is
why he builds his service parts
with the sume conscientious care
that is put into the building of
the car itself."
Over a period

I "Probably the most important

the last week," said C. A. Lock
i wood, local Ford and Fordson
(baler, "was the announcement
'. that balloon tires are to be furnish
M d as optional equipment on all
, i.. pes of Ford cars
"Tii s is probably the .greatest
'recognition givfn ba I loony since
th-ir introduction on the market,
and should prove an impetus to
their popularity.
j "The Ford Motor Company has
' long been interested in balloon
tues and ha;j been carrying on ex
periments with them for some
, tune. Its decision to supply bal
! loons conies only after severe
, t sis which, coupled with the good
n-Milis obtained by Individual own-,
eis, have proven these tires to bo
thoroughly practical for Ford cars.

The automobile is not bought

THE Ford car has remained the undisputed
leader for value, in the motoring world.
There are certain fundamental reasons why
this is true. It is a car, properly designed and
staunchly constructed, having a motor which has
proved itself reliable, long-lived and economical
It is adequately serviced by an organization reach
ing to every community and neighborhood.
These combine to give the Ford car the highest
resale value in proportion to list price.
And as production volume of the Ford has grown
the purchase price has been steadily reduced.
