of Agriculture entered a protest
over what he termed the domina
tion of American agriculture by
Secretary Hoover of the commerce
department.
The recommendations of the
president's agricultural conference,
the witness said, contained nothing
which had not already been formu
lated by Mr. Hoover and h quoted
Mr. Hoover as having said the func
tion of the department of agricul
ture should end with farm produc
tion and preparation. Transporta
tion and marketing, he declared,
were held by Mr. Hoover to be the
functions of his department.
