The Umpqua Chiefs and the
Squaws, of Roseburg, will visit
Oakland Friday night to fraternlie
with their fellow-boosters In this
community, says the Oakland Tri
bune. They are comlug In re
sponse to an imitation from the
Cobblers who will leave nothing
undone to make Hie occasion a
success.
It Is understood that the Ump
qua tribe will announce their ar
rival in this vicinity by beating
their tom-toms and flourishing
their tomahawks. They will form
in battle array and appear in the
various streets of the village in
t.ieir war paint and blankets. On
this foray they will ' be accom
panied by their famous band and
drum corps which will greatly add
to the interest and excitement of
the expedition.
In order to prevent any danger
of hostilities. It. I). Ilridges,
GobhleCohhler. has beeu delegat
ed to "make big talk" with the
Chiefs and will offer himself as a
Hostage for the security of the
members of the tribe In our midst.
To show their peaceful intentions
the Gobblers will don their head
pieces and loin the rednien In
their march and festivities.
About 8 o'clock the Umpquas
will gather In council at the Gob
bler's hall and will then proceed to
exemplify In a thrilling manner
the mystic rites of their tribe.
While these are kept secret from
tho pale faces. It Is rumored that
svmhollsm. torture and romance
are all Introduced Into the cere
monies with powerful effect. The
entertainment will ho better than
a show and there will be no admis
sion charged, the Umpquas com
ing solely on a mission of good
fellowship. Their only purpose is
to get acquainted and to promote
the boosting spirit by their visit
The Gobblers and the rest of ue
folks will welcome the I ,efs and
Squaws to Oakland and will be out
In full force to show their Hospitality.

September 13 is expected to attract
a great deal of intention from all
over the county. In order not to
conflict with this event, which l
being arranged by the Glide
Grange, the Rosehuig Home Pro
ducts Show was set for the dates
of the loth, 11th and 12th, nnd
Glide has promised to have a large
part of its exhibit on display In
Roseburg on those three datos. All
of the territory from Dlxonvllle
north and east In included In the
community fair, and from the in
terest being shown It is believed
that it will ho one of tho best
events of Its kind ever arranged
