Coming after the year 1S)22, which
showed a remarkable Improvement
over the "off year" 1921. the Increase
in automobile business during 1923 Is
even mora Impressive.
Studebaker a record in making 1923
Its banner year with the sale of more
than 145,162 cars follows a series of
phenomenal sales records. Each year
for the past six years Studebaker
sales have greatlye zceeded those of
the previous year.
Students of statistics will recall the
story that 1921 told. In that year the
sales have greatly exceeded those of
per cent greater than In 1920. while
the total number of cars sold of all
other makes except Fords was 40 per
cent less than in 1920.
Stated otherwise. Studebaker's ratio
of sales in 1921 was 129 and the total
of other makes except Fords was 60,

In 1922, therefore, Studebaker had
the showing of a record year to sur
pass and plans were laid for a pro
duction of 100,000 cars, as compared
with 66.643 in 1921. Even with this
large increase in production, at no
time was Studebaker able to supply
the demand for its carB. 110.269 cars
were produced and sold during 1922,
an Increase of 65 per cent over 1921
which up to that time was the great
est year in the history of Studebaker.
The increasing demand for Stude
baker cars continued in 1923. Ily the
end of August, the 1922 record was
exceeded, and by December 81 Stude
baker sales bad passed 145.162 mak
ing 1923 the greatest year, by far. In
Studebaker history. ,

Winkle, 23. a resident of the Eagle
Point district, is held In the county
Jail pending an investigation of al
leged bigamous conditions prevailing
in the romances of the vonni man.
The Investigation was instituted by
nis motner-in-law. Accord to Sheriff
C. E. Terrill, the records at Bend
Oregon show Winkle was married in
1921 to Audrey Sabln of that city,
and a year later to Mildred Atwell,
whose relatives live on the Crater
Lake highway, Just outside Medford.

R. Gaylord says Winkle admits both
marriages, but declares that the first
one was annulled, but has no legal
papers to Bhow it. The authorities
maintain no divorce was secured as
far as they can find out.

families have been driven from their
homes in Snohomish, twenty miles
northeast of here, by the rising wa
ters of the Snohomish, river, word
was received here today. The riv
er wont up sixteen feet in ten hours,
it was reported.
In Oie delta region contiguous to
Everett and Snohomish, dispatches
related, hundreds of farms were cov
ered with water and motor boats
were chugging above- the fields to
the relief of ranchers and their fam
