The Genie of the Wires
Aladdin summoned the genie of the lamp and
any wish was immediately gratified.
At your command there is the genie of the wires.
He will take your voice instantly without regard
to distance wherever you may desire to send it.
You are familiar with the conveniences of local
telephone service, but have you ever thought of
the pleasure or profit available in the use of the
long distance lines?
The genie of the lamp was the servant of a single
individual. The genie of the wires will respond to
the call of every telephone user.
Every Bell telephone is a Long Distance station.

Some of tho finest numhers yet play

pianist. The song service last night
also was a fine part of the service.
Mr. Itoss certainly had the people
singing with a will, and all enjoy
that kind of singing. The sermon of
the evening was on "Preparedness,"
and In tho course of the sermon the
evangelist dealt some sledge hammer
blows at some conditions of the pres

Wonder of Today
(International News Service.
GAINESVILLE, Ga., April 21.
The radiophonw is the seventh won
der of the modern world, Dr. II. J.
Ptarce, president of Brenau college
for women, told the world, in a mes
sage he broadcasted at the installa
tion of a radiophone in the college
recently, believed to be the first in
a woman's college.
The other six wonders of the mod
ern world, in tho order named, he
said, were the automobile, the aero
plane, the phonograph, the X-ray,
anaesthesia and radium.
Dr. Pierce contrasted what he
termed the seven wond'ers of the
modern world with the seven won
ders of the ancient world. "The sev
en ancient wonders, of which the
Iyramids is typical, consisted of
great masses of matter fashioned by
the hand of man," he said. "The sev
en modern wonders consist of rela
tively small masses of matter most
delicately adjusted.
"The wonders of tho ancient
world involved ponderous elements,
requiring great strength in their ad
justment; the wonders of the mod
ern world Involve the imponderable
ether and the air. requiring great
intelligence and delicacy of touch in
their adjustment.
"The ancient wonders were lo
tited at fixed points on the earth
and were the property of certain na
tions: the modern wonders are pro
duced anywhere and are the prop
erty of all people. s
"The ancient wonders were sub
ject to decay, and all except the
Pyramids have already disinte
grated. The modern wonders nre
eternal principles and time will only
add to their perfection and efficiency."
