Wednesday afternoon at the borne Stilt Heard Today
The ease or H. B. Shorner vs. Mar
gery H. Reed and W. P. Reed and
others was heard In the circuit court
today. The suit Is one brought for
the foreclosure of a Hen
Rom
may become valuable building prop
erly for the exclusive benefit of the
city and Warren Reed. .
It is claimed that the territory em-
braued within the port la already
overtaxed, and that with the anutnua
down of the mills there la no money
with which to pay the now existing
Indebtedness and that many property
owners are now unable to pay their
rugular taxes. The new burden, it la
said, would increase the indebted'
nesa to over 10 per cent of the as
sessed valuation.
Aa every meeting of the commis
sion, tbe complaint alleges, was held
ln secret. It was Impossible for any
remonstrance to be made at the
time, but since then, it Is said, peti
tions have been filed asking that the
ordinance passed be submitted to a
vote and also a petition has been
Bled in proper form asking for an
election to vote on the repeal of the
ordinauce. No action has been
taken by the commission on either
petition, it is claimed. The league,
the complaint states, has done all
within its power to obtain a joint
meeting with the commission and
that the commission baa refused to
moot with the taxpayers and has re
fused the permission to examine the
record books and the minutes of the
of Mrs. LaMere, on 117 South Flint
street. An enjoyable time has been
planned for all, and It la urged that
every member be present. i
' The court is asked to quash the
ordinance and enjoin the Issuance of
the bonds.
