governments, after referring to their

"They (the powers referred to)
have no wish to interfere In the in
ternal affaire or Greece, but feel
bound to declare publicly that re
storation to the throne of a king

toward the allies during the war

them as ratification by Greece of his
hostile acts.
"This step would create a new and

The note was uncompromising, but

over-estimate the situation. The

Greece complicates the situation still
further. Greece as a loyal friend to
the allies could safely be permitted
certain expansions of territory and

Prussianized nation becomes a dan
gerous link between Germany and
the near east. The allies would not
be Justified In barring Constantino
from Greece, and they huve not un
dertaken to do that. They are, how
ever, justified in taking whatever
measures are necessary to insure
that, when Constauline does resume
his throne, he cannot use Greece
again as an instrument to extend
German domination and thwart the
will of the rest of Europe.

York. Meals are served to the im

berry jelly, lea or coffee, bread and
butter.
Fifty-one cents a day, as any
American will admit, is a very mod
erate allowance for food, particular
ly food of this description, cooked
and served at a restaurant.
How is It done? Objections ot
'no overhead" do not. hold. This Is
a private enterprise, run for profit.
It has to pay the government a rental
of $2400 n year, and nlso pays its
cooks and waiters more than they
could get for such work at many New
York hotels.
The manager saves money by buy
ing carefully, and In large quantities,
but not at a sacrifice of quality. He
makes full use of available labor
saving machinery and has worked
out what Is said to be a model sys
tem of efficient cooking and serving.
There Is no expensive table linen or
silver or chnia. Kverything of that
nature Is made for use, not beauty.
Still, that is true of many a restaur
ant that charges prices several times
as high as those at Kills Island.
Most Americans will be disposed to
envy those immigrants.

There were coat hangers, hobby
horses and other toys niado with the
coping saw, needlework and stencil
ed articles, every article the work
of Iho children, for sale. Bulbs,
which had been planted and cared
lor by the children sold quickly. The
ladles of Iho town donated cooking
for the sale. The pupils of the room
acted as the clerks nnd the proceed
of the sale amounted to $117. 50.
The liigh school pupils hail a Red
Cross booth in which they sold sub
scriptions, and Ited Cross stamps,
obtaining in all aout $40.
The Sale proved to be a success
and every article was sold. There
was a large crowd although it was a
stormy day.
