"When do you expect Ken and Grace home, Mr. Halsey?" I asked as soon as 1 could raise my eyes to his without showing blin my heart. 1 wanted to change the subject from my own affairs for until I could go away alone and think over what the arrival of my father would mean to me and my life, 1 did not waut to discuss It with anyone. "Oh, you never can tell about theirl." Mr. Halsey answered, bitterly Impatient. "Ken has made the an nouncement many times that he would come homo on a certain date and then changed It. I really cannot understand the boy. I thought ne had more sand. I would tell that young lady. If she were my wife, that I had to get back to my busi ness, and If she did not want to ac company me she could stay 4-bere she was. "Grace seems to take a different notion every day. The only thing that 1 can see that she is determined upon is to ruin Ken If possible." "Why dont' you go down to Hot Springs, or wherever they are now, Mr. Halsey, and talk to Grace's mother, If you are not able to show Grace the situation In Its true light." "Decause, my dear.'Mrs. Cameron is even worse than her precious daughter. Doth seem determined to run through the money that Ken In herited from his mother. In fact, I think they have pursuaded Ken to spend all of it on that great palace of a house. As you know, his last letter asked me for more money to pay for some of the furnishings." The idea struck me that Mr. Hal Bey was Judging Grace Cameron and her mother in the same terms In which they always thought of him money and credit. "1 hate money," I exclaimed bit terly. "Almost every tragedy in the world comes from too much or too little money. Money Influences char acter tremendously, and while I have found that a poor man or wom an can be unselfish, I have Beldomel known a rich one to be. "Most men today seem to think that success is measured wholly by money. Undoubtedly money does bring a measure of contentment Into one's life. It means something to know that one will be cared for In old age. But 1 made the best friend of my life while I had the least money. "You. Mr. Halsey," I went on Im petuously, "have more money than you know what to do with " ' "I'd like to give you some of It, Ann," he interrupted. "I appreciate your offer, Mr. Hal sey," I Interrupted, "but It would de stroy my .self-respect to accept It. You have already given me the best thing in your power to give by letting me know that I can be of use to you. "Money is the easiest thing In the world to give, and yet both the giver and the receiver make more fuss about It than they do over any other gift. 'Yo'i .will forgive me. Mr. Halsey, f- .ng this unsought advice on but why don't you let Grace have her fling? Ken Is your only child, and why let a few dollars stand in the way of his happiness. "Mr dear Ann." answered Mr. Hal sey, "I would gladly let Grace spend money freely if I thought It wouia make Ken happy, but I am sure thai giving Grace full rein with money would only make matters worse." "Perhaps." I mused thoughtfully, "but no man can choose a man's wife but the man himself." "Yes." answered Mr. Halsey grim ly, "but the man does not always make the choice. Ken, In his right ind, would have never married Grace." Mr. Halsey's mouth closed In a straight line, which indicated better than words could have done hlB con viction upon this point. He turned and picked up the letters that we had forgotten In our discussion of Ken's letter, meantime dismissing the subject with the remark, "Well, if Ken has the stuff in him he will come out all right. If his eyes are not open yet, time will open them. "But, Ann, I must not talk of It longer. I get too angry. My boy Is too good to be lost through Grace Cameron's vanltv. We you and I must save him. Before I could reply Mr. Halsey picked up the third letter and started to open it. Tomorrow An Act of Providence. Hogs Pay Big Money Mr.' Pete Wing, of Hawk Point. General Laod Otto - Movie Closeups Two of the greatest fac ors Id life, today, heredity and environment, have been used by Douglua Fair banks In supplying the thems for his third United Artists Production, "The Mollycoddle," which will be the feature attraction at the Ant lers theatre tonight. The time has arrived, according to the famous star, when the new lashtuiied "movie" la taking the place, even of the old fashioned de bating society. The "big" questions that once furnished meat for argu ments of a v erbal character, are now being thrashed out in a more enter taining inauuer on the screen. In "The Mollycoddle." Douglas Fairbanks, as Hlchard Marshall, the Fifth, la an ofrttpriug of many gen erations of fearless Hunters. His an cestors fought all the way through ine Kevoiuiton; ail across tne plains ana all down tne coast of the west ern country. They were not dainty, or even civilised In their undertak ings, and it mattered little Just how they gained a point. Just so long a ft was gained quickly. Tho sordid, the beautiful, the ad venturous, the thrilling, all or these furnish the flavor of "The White Moll" a powerful photoplay In which Pearl White appeared for the first time aa a William Fox star, and In her first big production, and which Is to be the attraction at the Liberty theatre tonight. In "The White Moll," Pearl White surpasses anything she has ever pre viously done on the screen. Hlie fur nishes an abundance of thrills In a role which Is so intensely dramatic framed In a story which grips the heart rrom the start and holds atten lion until the finish. '.The White Moll" Is from the Ben of Frank L. Packard, author of the celebrated photoplay, "The Miracle Man." In it Miss White has many op portunltles to display all the extra ordinary magnetism which has made her the best known screen actress in tho world. She possesses a most at tractive presence, and In her strong emotional scenes is superb. Tho story Is laid within New Yorks underworld, and Miss White has the role of a young settlement worker who, once a crook herself, aids the unfortunate and seeks to reform men and women who murder for a llvll hood. The experiences she encounter in doing this are astounding, and the action Is rapid ennuRh for anyone The story carries a strong heart ap peal to everyone. There is a delight ful romance in which the heroine wins the love of a reformed gangster A strong cast headed by Hlchard C. Travers supports the star. The scenario was written by F,. Lloyd Sheldon, and the direction was ly Harry Millarde. A faithful reproddctlon of the Cafe Mountmartre, one of Hroadway s famous dance palaces la the feature of "On With the lance, the George Fltzmaurlce production, featuring Mae Murray, and David Powell, now showing at the Majestic theatre and which will be shown for the Inst time tonight. The gay cabaret was built at the Paratnount-Artcraft studio in New York, from minute photographs. Several hundred extras, two Ja bandB, famous professional eccentric and uhlmmy dancers, and the en tire corps of waiters from a Broad way "lobster palace" were engaged for the occasion. Some of the most famous actors, actresses and public personages of New York were pres ent when the scenes were " shot ind are seen as diners at the various tables. ThiB episode is declared to be one of the most brilliant and elab orate of Its kind ever filmed. Mae Murray has the role of a dan cing girl, and Ib. of course, the cen ter of attraction. David Powell has the chief mnle part. The story is one of Intense heart appeal and dramatic conflict. It was adapted hy Oulda Hergere from a stage play. FAIIMKIW WKEK l'ltX;lt.M. (Contluued from page 3) enough Dodge Brothers cars to Insure every dodge Brothers dealer a greater profit In selling only Dodge Brothers cars than In undertaking to finance and market two or more dirt went Hues of cars. We firmly believe that each and every Dcdge Brothers, dealer who haa dropped his other lines of cars and haa concentrated his eutire capital and energy on financing and selling Dodge Brothers cars exclusively will tell you that be has made mora money with lesser Investment, lesser expense and leaser worry than ever before. Therefore, should you conclude to become an exclusive deuler la Dodge Brothers cars, be sure that you meet honorably your commitments to tho other makers, whose cars you have been representing. Give them tho notice your agreement with them calls for. Don't be too precipitate We would ask you to be sure to give them the sume square deal that we know you would give us. (Applause), . And why do we advise this? Not altogether from purely selfish mo tives, as our past attitude clearly proves, but because In this present crisis, the weakness In our deuler organization today lies In our split-dealer rep resentation. If every dealer w ho Is handling other lines of cars were to average the consumption of Dodge Brothers cars that every exclusive dealer averages, we would be over the top. gontlemen, without a question. That condition has proven to he a weakness, not only to our dealer organisation, but it has proven to be a fatnl weakness of the individual dealer having -livided Interests. It is a pretty hard thing for a man selling two lines of Rood cars, to have a prospect come Into his store and ask him "which is the best car for me to buy?" Take a conscientious man, and be Is certainly up against It for an answer to that question, and he loses ground. Some salesmen not properly trained flounder and at once lose the sale. It Is not good business. We have proven It Is not good business. It is not healthy business for us. It Is not healthy business for the dealer. It Is not healthy business for the other car manufacturer. It is better for all of us, that our dealers should conAno themselves to but the one car. By July first of next year, we hope that all of you having split accounts will be able to see your way clear to continue with Dodge Brothers exclusively. We will never tell you thut you must give up any other line of cars; we will simply ask you to make your choice. (laughter). Gentlemen, you don't care If you don't make any money this year. We don't care If we don't make any money this year. It Is not for this year we are building; we are building for the future. You have made money the past five or six years. What If you do havs a bad year, so long as In the end you average up a good profit? That Is what we aim to do, and that Is what you are going to do. In closing, I want to Just set your minds at rest on one other thing: In our doalers meetings we have been having In Detroit, we have been asked if there was nny truth to the rumor that Dodge Brothers are going to be Bold to Wnll Street Interests, nr merged with the General Motors. I was very happy 16 be able to tell them that, at our district representatives' convention last May, Mr. II. E. Dodge made the statement which he reiter ated to me only a few days ago, that Dodge Brothers business Is not for sale, In whole or In part, to anybody at any price, no matter what the offer may be or who makes it, as long as Mr. H. E. Dodge lives, and be expects to live a long, long time. I tell you that, In closing, gentlemen, so that you may know definitely thut the policies with which you are so familiar and under which you have worked so happily and successfully these past six years, will continue to lie the policies of Dodge Brothers, and they really have only one policy, and thnt Is the policy of the square deal for everyone.
