The greatesl persxiual victory yel
woo In this Democratic convention wut
cored by a young Filipino by the name
of Josh P. Melcuclo. lie bus charge of
the Philippine Publicity Bureau at
Washington.
He la only twenty-six yenn old and
received bis education Id the public
achoola of the Philippine under
American teachers, aa lie proudly
boasted and at Georgetown, D. 0.
He Is remarkably promising young
nian.
Speaking with grace, using Ihe best
language and without a trnce of em
barrassment, he presented the clulm
of the Filipinos to Independence. The
audience wus astonished at the
strength of bis argument, the skill
with which he marshaled bis facts and
the high tone of hla speech. He capti
vated everyone and committeemen ond
vlsltora paid hltn the compliment of
rising oDd cheering when he concluded
bis plea.
When one of the committee asked
him some questions he returned to the
platform and answered them with as
much logic and precision aa If he had
token weeks to prepare Ills answer. It
was a remnrknble triumph.
Aa one who begnn twenty-two years
ago to fight for the promise of Inde
pendence I was proud of this Illustra
tion of wbat the Filipino Is capable.
