Speaking of the outcome of the
trial of J. F. Wallace, who was ac
cused of a mot revolting crime an.l
who was completely vindicated, etc..
We must state as to our opinion that
our experienced officials certainly
did their whole duty In this case anil
finally cleared an Inno ent man. We
must sustain the Integrity of our Ju
diciary without a possibility of their
letting a guilty ma nescape. Sheriff
Qulne and District Pttorney Neunerl
certainly were corrleet and thet
grand jury ratified their verdict. To!
doubt our officials would be dlsloy il. ;
It certainly was an unfortunate rails-

Wheat Makes a
Sharp Decline
PORTLAND. Oct. 6 Portland
wheat prices took a sharp drop yes
terday in sympathy with the big
I slump in the eastern market. At
me aiercnauts exenange z was Did
for hard white, a decline of 20 cents
from Saturday's price. Decline in
other grade ranged from this
amount down to cent.
No business was reported from the
country, where farmers are said to
be more anxious to sell. Exporters
are entirely out of the market, as
Canadian and other foreign wheat Is
being sold in the world's market un
der the price of American grain.

The atudent council of the High
School Student Body, met last night
in conjunction with the presidents
of the four High School clussea and
several important business matters
were taken up for discussion. A
standard size for the class pennant
was adopted and a design adopted.
When these pennants are purchased
they will be displayed In the as
sembly hall, according to an agree-,
in en t made among the classes at a
meeting of the student body early'
Inst spring. Fach claxs will respect
the pennant of the- other class and
there will be no "swiping." The aire
adopted was 2 4 by 5 feet. It was
further voted to work out a plan In
the near future for Inter class riv
alry. In a contest to Include both the!
literary and athletic efforts. There
Is a desire on the part of the stud
ents and instructors to organise the
spirit of rivalry among the classes,
instead of the somewhat "harum
scarum' method in which this riv
alry has been expressed heretofore.
They also decided to raise funds in
some manner to purchase a cup or
other suitable prize for the class
winning the most points In the contests.

Official confirmation of press dis
patches from Detroit, announcing
that there would be no reduction in
the price of Dodge Brothers Motor
Cars, has been received by J. O. New
land, the Dodge Brothers deuler In
this city. A telegram from O. W.
Matheson, .acting general sales man
ager, to the local deuler, reads:
"Dodge Brothers policy has ever
been to give full value for the price
asked. There will be no reduction In
(he present pricea of Dodge Brothers
motor cars. Newspaper reports to
the conirury are absolutely untrue."
"Dodge Brothers announcement
was no surprise to us," suld J. O.
Newluud. "In fact It la only a sub
stantiation of Dodge Brothers busi
ness principles. At no time' have
they ever demanded an excess
amount for their product. Aa in the
past, they will continue In the future
to demand a fair return for their
efforts.
"The mere fact that the demand
for Dodge Brothers motor cars Is
si ill greater than the supply, despite
the great expansion program at the
factory, has absolutely nothing to do
with the decision to continue the
present prices. In marketing their
car Dodge Brothers have never made
a point of price and will never sac
rifice the quality of their product to
enter price competition."
